  1. We have always used hormone free organic milk. Did you really notice a difference though..that she was developing and you quit the milk and she stopped? I thought it was a more cumulative thing.
  2. moms who have been through this. I am concerned about DD's friends who may not go through this for a long time. Might they make DD feel different or weird?
  3. Thank you for sharing this. I think I can handle 11. I hope it progresses slowly. How did your DD handle it?
  4. The only sign so far is breast buds. I am usually not over-sensitive or emotional about my kids...but this is really bothering me. I feel like she JUST started school! second grade!
  5. Has anyone been through this? I have looked into it and I think she is still in the "normal" range, but I feel so sad and worried about it. She is not overweight, in fact she is pretty small. DH's family seems to hit puberty early and I was prepared for age ten maybe but she is only 8. Anyone know anything about this? or been through it themselves?
  6. thanks everyone, I reserved some of those from the library!
  7. We are in SOTW III and I have the AG, but I could use just a bit more extra reading for the Pilgrim era. We are on chapter 6. Some of the books in the AG seem a little advanced for my dd because we started SOTW in K. So these would be for second grade. There HAVE to be a few more children's biographies of some of the leaders of that time. Also we are Christians and if there are any books that talk a bit more about the religious aspect. Any recs here? I am also looking for really nice picture books about this time period. (We did read some from the AG, but want a few more) Thanks, Laura
  8. We are going to the Renaissance Faire :biggrinjester: for the first time this weekend. It looks a little pricey so I am wanting to really get my money's worth. Any tips ahead of time from those of you who have been? What to take/ plan for / see / do and not do? dds are 5 and 7 by the way. Thanks!
  9. I thought it was a fluke at first, but I have not been able to get SOTW 3 from Amazon for MONTHS now! Is there something I don't know?
  10. http://www.amazon.com/Original-Count-Musical-Multiplication-Songs/dp/B000ZFNLD8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1279726911&sr=8-2 not sure if my link will work you can listen to sample on amazon. i downloaded it from there. i have the MUS one and the classical conversations one and they are no good compared to the skip count kid. his songs are so catchy, even my 4 yo learned most of them and the kids think they are funny. i don't have a Bible one, althought maybe it is good. mine is the original skip count kid and it is all stuff about animals. it really has made our transition to multiplication a breeze.
  11. What are some good chapters from the Bible for dds 5 and 7 to memorize next year? Something that isn't too hard for their age, but will be good to have with them for their lives. thanks!
  12. I know by Kindergarten DD1 was listining to chapter books on audio. DD2 really isn't interested in that quite yet. She likes an audio book that has some stories and some songs. Does anyone have any recs for this? The one we have that she loves is by Steve Green. Sir Bernard the Good Knight. She listens to it over and over.
  13. We are still in the grammer stage, so I really shouldn't be commenting on this, but I am going to anyway! DH was a history and political science major in college and he can't believe some of the stuff SOTW has that he didn't have until elective 400 level classes in college (mostly the asia and india history). So I never understand why you couldn't just use SOTW over for logic and add in the more advanced supplementary literature. You can give much more difficult writing and research assignments with it. I feel like that is what we are going to do anyway. TOG looks great too. But it just really surprises me when people say SOTW isn't enough. It is 1,000 times the amount of history they would get before high school in almost any school.
  14. There is a lady on here who writes a blog called Bike Book Bread. Then her blog just disappeared. I know it isn't that big of a deal..but are you on here? anyone know where she went? I am just currious.
  15. I read recently on a art blog that the teacher saves coupons for Joanne Fabrics and Michaels and gets it half off or 40%. I don't know how that compares to Walmart prices. She also swears by the quality. I think it is also that it doesn't pucker when wet.
  16. I think SOTW II is also so much harder than SOTW I. whew. I don't think that it is important to get it done in a year. We took 15 months for each so far. But I do always regret when we step away from it for a time. I think you lose momentum and continuity. I got lazy halfway through SOTW I and slacked way off. I determined not to do that with SOTW II, but it is still taking us a long time because it is SO much material. I didn't do half the read aloud supplementary stuff this time either! Can't wait to see what SOTW III has to offer.
  17. thank you! off to melt it. the oil smelled a little rancid so i like this idea better
  18. I am making blueberry muffins from a mix. (don't judge me) I just realized that my vegtable oil is 3 months expired. Can I use butter or margerine instead? Thanks in advance!
  19. Thanks Heidi, I love the picture of all three boys reading.
  20. I am writing a blog post this week, telling what we did in HS this year. mostly only family reads my blog, but the in-laws and my parents don't know much about what we do. i mostly follow WTM with lots of living books and CM. Can anyone help me write just one sentence describing what a classical education is? and another one describing Charlotte Mason? i could do it in a paragraph, but I think I will lose them..plus I am brain dead right now from hosting Fathers Day!
  21. does anyone know how I can create a simple slideshow to insert into my blog? i know how to make one in moviemaker, but that seems like overkill. i want like a flicker stream only in my blog. thanks for any help you can give.
  22. answering my own question here again, but I looked at this Beautiful Feet for the first time. LOVE IT! Those books lookgreat. I think if I used those to supplement SOTW, I would probably be just fine. I think I can get most of them at the library though.
  23. Sorry, I have asked a few questions about this already, but if anyone can help..I would appreciate it. Is there something like SOTW..only for just American history and not too long. I have a just second grader and I want it to be chronological and easy to read like SOTW. Also not too too long. I am going to look at History of US by Hakim, but it may be a bit too advanced and a bit textbooky. thanks!
