My first grader started out with HWT this year and we switched to copywork from happy scribe.

I'm not worried, per se, but I am conscious of the fact that there is a proportional increase in frustration as he'll get older and not be able to communicate effectively. We've done a lot of the exercises already. I almost think that since his is a third child, he has been talked over a bunch and has been understood within the context of our family thus far. He starts his words and doesn't finish them. I will take advantage of any therapy we can get while we can get it. I've also looked at the Baby Babble DVD's and ordered them.

My dh and I have officially decided that we have a late talker. Our third, who is now 30 months, is very expressive and communicative but just hasn't gotten simple sounds down. His words are very very difficult to understand but sometimes context gives us clues and so we've been working it out and he feels understood. I would really like to take a few weeks and spend some extra special time practicing word sounds before I go ahead and start looking for a speech therapist. If anyone has dealt with this sort of delay, I'd love some direction. Thanks

I'm taking the dive into the workbox world. I'm excited and slightly overwhelmed but in a good way. On to my question: Did you leave a border of lamination around the workbox tags? And if not, how long did they last before they started to peel? What if I used a heavy duty clear packing tape instead (save $$)... should I leave a border to seal in the tag or not?? TIA

I just got turned on to the Workbox System and I think it addresses all of the OP's issues/concerns. From my own experience of having been home schooled, I definitely think that structure, in a positive frame, can work volumes. If you are concerned about character, my honest opinion is that if you are failing in that area, they will understand better when you confess it to them and tell them what you are going to do different and stick with it (easier said than done, I know). I personally think that character development takes time and immediate results aren't necessarily the ones that speak to long term growth. Character takes time to develop. I'd much rather hear from my child's Sunday School teacher that he is polite and inquisitive and (fill in the blank) than otherwise, even if he's acting out at home. I've been told countless times that children are vibrational sponges and they act, in part, the way they do at home because in some way they are trying to communicate a need that isn't being met and that they don't yet have the maturity to speak into that issue and bring it to light in an adult way. I don't know what I"m going to do when my kids are the ages of yours... so all what I'm saying is just my thoughts. Pray for grace. Constantly. And mercy. Because it's impossible to think or expect one, imperfect, though justified and continually being sanctified, human being, to parent another imperfect human being without the proverbial bumps in the road.

I think I should know this but what does MEP stand for, again? We use MM exclusively but I was also wondering about supplementation.
