  1. Paranormal Activity was great!!! I'm hoping to go back and see it again sometime this week. Very creepy!
  2. My dd had it too (picked it up on a mission's trip in central America), and we were also told to alternate between motrin and tylenol. She came out of it just fine, BTW. The bad symptoms lasted less than a week.
  3. We've already had it in our household. Teenage dd just caught swine flu last month while on a mission's trip in Central America. We didn't know until after she got back. Her body handled it well, like any other flu. The rest of our family were given Tamiflu for ten days and none of us caught it. No. We will not be limiting our outdoor activities, but I am trying to make sure we keep our immune systems healthy by eating right, taking vitamins, and good hygiene.
  4. LOL! No, I haven't seen that version of it. It's probably the only way I could make it through the whole movie..."Hurray, for San Dee Claus!" Isn't that the way the song goes?
  5. "The night is cold, the snow is new. Father loves the winter, and I do too" I LOVE LITTLE BEAR!! Thanks for the suggestions so far!
  6. I'm looking to add to our regular Christmas shows that we watch every year. Even obscure suggestions would be great (except Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, blech!). I think I want to buy Yogi's 1st Christmas if anyone remembers that. Here's a few of what we already own: All Rankin-Bass shows and Charlie Brown Christmas A Christmas Story Home Alone Christmas Vacation Almost all versions of A Christmas Carol/Scrooged White Christmas Happy Holidays with Frank & Bing (love this!) The Polar Express Santa and the Three Bears Elf The Santa Clause 1, 2, & 3 We also watch, but don't own, It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street. Thanks for your suggestions!
  7. It's so nice to be in love with the state you live in! I'm wondering if we grew up down the street from each other, LOL! I have fond memories of watching Disneyland fireworks from our Garden Grove rooftop in the 70's. I had a wonderful childhood growing up in Orange County, but as an adult, I no longer wanted to live there. A few years ago we were finally able to move to my beautiful, adopted state Louisiana. I love it here!! The homes, the history, the culture. All of my relatives remain in California, so I still get to go to Disneyland when I visit :).
  8. I don't post much, but... la: comes from my green, beautiful, wonderful, adopted home, Louisiana (goodbye SoCal). marley: comes from the character Jacob Marley because I love A Christmas Carol, and this quote moves me and makes me think: "Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business."
  9. Terri, Do you find that snoopstick slows down your computers or makes them crash? Thanks!
  10. My 17yo nephew just got picked for the Yankees today!!! (Although lives in Orange County, CA, and is also a life-long Angels fan :)).
  11. I'm not sure how strict of a diet you follow, but I wanted to make you aware (just in case) that most of your store-bought yogurts contain gelatin, which is definitely not vegetarian. My two dd's have been vegetarians all of their lives and I adapted the diet as a teen. You wouldn't believe how many items contain gelatin . I always check the ingredient label before buying a new food item that I haven't tried. Rennet is something else you might want to look out for. Again, depending on how strict your diet is.
  12. in Johnson Ranch, but I still keep up with everything that goes on in the San Tan area. At the time, we had to drive into Mesa or Gilbert to do *anything,* but it's built up quite a bit since we've moved. Hunt Highway, the main street used to get out of Queen Creek, would get very, very congested during rush hour it could take people well over an hour to get to their jobs if they worked in the surrounding cities. I'm not sure if that's changed or not. Because of the mortgage crisis, you'll find a lot of renters (we were). We took great care of the home that we lived in and respected our neighbors, but the renters next door did not. Even with an HOA, you can definitely get some people that you don't want next to you, but I suppose you can get that anywhere. Unfortunately, grafitti, vandalism, and gangs have become a little more prevalent in that area in recent months. At least in Johnson Ranch. We did enjoy all of the amenities; pools, tennis, golf course, neighborhood parties. Overall it was a very enjoyable time for us. BUT, and this is coming from a girl who lived in Southern California's high desert for ten years, so I'm no stranger to heat; the unbearable triple digit numbers that we would get day, after day, after day, in Queen Creek drove me crazy! The rest of the year was beautiful, but I will never forget my Arizona summer! BTW, this is my second summer in the south and even though we're going through a humid heat wave right now, when people ask how I'm handling the heat I can still say, "I've lived in Arizona...this is nothing!!"
  13. Our beautiful Basset is wonderful now (for the most part) but she was very tough to house-break as a puppy. She's doesn't howl, but hates to be away from us for an extended length of time. If we have anyone watch her, she whines and whines until one of us comes home. I hear that some Bassets like to dig, so that may be something you want to consider if you're afraid of your dog escaping. Ours doesn't dig so that hasn't been an issue for us. Like someone else said, even though they have short hair, they shed A LOT. Oh! And ours gets into the trash and steals bread, or any kind of food for that matter, that's left at the edge of the table where she can reach. It's just a habit for our family to push their plates to the middle of our dining table if we have to get up from a meal to get something. On the plus side; she loves to play, go for walks, be pet, and give us lots and lots of love. I wouldn't trade her for any other dog!
  14. Dh and I heard breaking glass and thought one of our girls dropped something. We looked all around and couldn't figure out what caused the noise. Last night, when we opened our kitchen cupboard, there was our casserole dish, sitting all by itself, shattered. Very strange.
