  1. I thought this sad "Gilmore Girls" and I got all excited. My bad. //backs out slowly
  2. The standard sized ESV Study Bible seemed too big to carry regularly, so I am glad they made the personal size one!
  3. I read the sticky, it appeared that this thread would be allowed, since it isn't partisan at all...
  4. To me, politics are very important. It really upsets me when I find that a person chooses not to vote, for various reasons. Personally, I study candidates and issues far in advance. I try to vote in primaries and general elections. I also try to talk people into voting in general, and specifically for the same candidate or stance on the issues as me. I would prefer, however, somebody who studies the issue or candidates, and votes differently than I do, than a person who does not vote, or even just votes based solely on political party. So, how involved do you get in politics? Why do you choose to vote or not vote?
  5. Right, that is what I am trying to say. Sorry it isn't coming out right! This would be for after I get out. Where would you recommend living in NoVA?
  6. That is because the types of sex people are having is changing...
  7. LOL I am referring to the AFB, but I wouldn't mind being closer to the DC area, as there is a good chance I could be working there after I get out... :)
  8. What would be closer to Langley, but have as low a cost of living? I would much prefer VA over MD... I am referring to the AFB, but I wouldn't mind being closer to the DC area, as there is a good chance I could be working there after I get out...
  9. None taken. We are white, conservative libertarian, Christian suburbanites ourselves, so that doesn't sound too shabby for us. :001_smile: Edit: not that we mind diversity or anything!
  10. Just planning ahead. We are still in Hawaii for a couple years. The big thing is our next base may be our last, so the earlier I can put a place on my dream sheet, the higher the likelihood of getting stationed there. I would most likely be at Langley. But, after I get out, I could get a job just about anywhere in that area as a contractor doing the same thing I am now, just making a lot more money.
  11. http://health.msn.com/health-topics/sexual-health/mens-sexual-health/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100270273&gt1=31036 As a father of (soon to be) 3 young girls, I generally get nervous when I think about them becoming teenagers and young adults. However, news like this gives me a little glimmer of hope...
  12. I use Avira. (it is free) I refuse to use Kaspersky, I don't trust the maker.
  13. I had heard it referred to as Hoodbridge also. My sister (who lives in Arlington) said it isn't really THAT bad, there is just a large military presence there. Since we are military, we are fine with that. The biggest thing is cost-of-living. The houses I saw online looked pretty decent for the price, considering what I was seeing for the rest of the area.
  14. My old Bible was the NLT Life Application Study Bible - had it about 11 years or so, falling apart pretty badly! Well used Bible.
  15. I am looking at places to eventually move, and really like some things about each of these cities. Does anyone here have any experience with either of them? How are they as far as homeschooling? How about private schools nearby that teach using a trivium based method? Maybe a CC group? What is the quality of life like? Cost of living? Life for a fairly young, growing family? Political and religious atmosphere, etc? I appreciate any input! :lurk5:
  16. I recently purchased the ESV Study Bible, Personal size edition. I got the TruTone (fake leather) cover, which has a lifetime guarantee. I really, really am liking this Bible...I like the size, the study notes, the ESV translation, the online access, the cover material, the cover design, single column format, words of Christ in black, the Smyth-sewn binding, etc. Everything except the thin, easily wrinkled pages What is your favorite Bible currently? Here is the link to mine: http://www.amazon.com/Study-Personal-TruTone-Celtic-Design/dp/1433524708/ref=tmm_hrd_title_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299225554&sr=8-4-spell
  17. I remember in Kindergarten I got a question on a school paper wrong because I spelled rabbit properly, instead of phonetically...my parents saved that one!
  18. Krav Maga is a lot more physical than TKD. I would say, a lot more useful in the real world as well. Unfortunately, there are no legit Krav Maga classes offered in my state, or my girls would be learning!
  19. I was taught to read by my parents, starting with sight words. Phonics I mostly taught myself as I memorized more and more words and began seeing the patterns. This system seems to have worked (at least for me). In 7th grade I was tested and read 1270 words per minute, with 100% comprehension. So, I see that most people here are fans of teaching reading phonically as opposed to using sight words, and I was just wondering what the reasoning behind that is? I understand every child is different...
  20. We enrolled our four-year old in Kindergarten in the PS for the fall...we had to do it early because they are redistricting for the new school year. If we got her in before March 1, then she would be grandfathered into this school. Otherwise she would have to go to a different, much worse school. I pray we made the right choice. Of course, it isn't irreversible.
