  1. I track it on http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/ and just try to get 50% of my calories from protein, 20% from fat, and 30% from carbs. (or something like that) As far as dividing it up based on time, I don't worry too much about it. I try to eat a lot of small meals, and average the calories over a two day period.
  2. re: the canonization of Scripture. The way I understand things, back in the day there were a lot of manuscripts floating around claiming to be divinely inspired. The problem is, many of these "gospels" and writings conflicted with each other. So, they got together and hashed out which books belong in the canon of Scripture. I believe they were divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit as to which books made it in and which were left out.
  3. http://www.redeemedreader.com/ I saw this mentioned in a magazine I read, they have reviews of books for children from a Christian perspective. Thought I would share it with you all!
  4. Yep, we are military. We are hoping to move to Colorado Springs in a couple years.
  5. Well, there are around 30,000 Protestant denominations. There are differences between all of them, some small, and some great. Then there are also non-denominational churches that are basically independent. Then you have situations that even within a denomination, there are variances between individual churches. And then you have 2 churches that have the same exact beliefs and theology, but have other differences - like worship styles, size, ministries offered, preaching styles, etc. Unfortunately, my beliefs aren't 100% in line with any one denomination that I am aware of. They are fairly close to several different denominations though. Here where I live, it is not a very churched place, but there are still dozens, if not hundreds, of churches available to choose from.
  6. You may notice I didn't title this "stubborn wife." My wife and I are both rather stubborn in our ways. How do you deal with your spouse not being on the same page as you, when it comes to things like your children's education, or theology, church membership/attendance, etc.? To me these are "important" things that we should be in agreement on. If we can't agree on these, and can't discuss them too much without getting into an argument, would the best thing to do be to adopt a "pray and wait" attitude, in the hopes that God will change one or the other of our minds? Has anyone else had to deal with this?
  7. You say "we," but did one of you feel this way first, and then convince or talk the other one into it, or did you both spontaneously feel this way simultaneously? I am in sort of a similar situation, but my wife isn't on board...
  8. I have been doing a bunch of research lately into Colorado Springs, and I found out something. It looks like there are five (5!) charter schools in the area that teach using a Classical method! On top of that, there are several private schools as well that do this! I know, I get excited about the littlest things...
  9. It does help, thanks! Prior to actually reading through it, what is the best way to know which direction something is biased? Obviously Christian vs secular should be easy to tell, but even then I imagine you could have Catholic, EO, Reformed, non-reformed, etc. What about for the rest? Is there a website that does reviews of the spines that could tell the direction of the biases?
  10. Are they all pretty equal as far as historical accuracy and bias go?
  11. I see what you are saying. I guess I am just being too picky. It's just hard because I do have such a complicated belief system that doesn't fit into a neat little box with a bow. I would love to be able to say I am XYZ and share all the beliefs of XYZ. Certainly would make life a lot easier to be able to find a perfect match, but I realize that day will probably never happen. No offense taken at all, I do find some of it (church hunting) fun, but the rest of my family doesn't, and I have also gotten past the fun point and just gotten to a point where I just want to find a church that my family enjoys and where I can tolerate the theology. :)
  12. How many grades are these good to use for? I assume you aren't teaching 1st, 5th, and 9th using the same spine, or are you? I am a little confused as to how it all works...sorry.
  13. What books are available as "spines?" I have seen SOTW mentioned, and maybe a couple others. Does anyone have a list, maybe?
  14. You are the best, Heather in NC...thanks for these and all your help.
  15. Avira Antivir is also free and very good. Also look into Microsoft Security Essentials (also free). Avoid Kasperksy, Norton, and McAfee. //source:did this for a living
  16. I have heard good things about the Primal diet as presented by Mark Sisson. More info here: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/ and here are some recipes: http://www.health-bent.com
  17. We actually went to a Calvary chapel that was okay. Our youngest HATED the nursery there for some reason, and would scream every time though. They also had a book for sale in the foyer called "The Dark Side of Calvinism" which kinda weirded me out. And almost all the books were either written by or had a foreword by Chuck Smith. I don't mind churches that sell books (probably prefer it actually), but present a balanced viewpoint, or at least multiple authors. Anyone know how you could find out where the preacher went to college without having to go through each church website? I like Wheaton College, and SWBTS (within the last 15-20 years or so), and it would be neat to sit under a pastor who graduated from one of those.
  18. Oh, my co-worker corrected me: "‎4 years old... .22 chimpmunk single shot with a scope ;)"
  19. Thanks! I would prefer in the denomination in general, but we could tolerate a church where it was only in that church, I suppose. We probably not choose to attend a church that does practice infant baptism. I have looked on the 9 marks website and Founders website for Calvinist leaning Baptist churches, do you know of any others that might be helpful? We are on Oahu, BTW.
  20. Do you have a blog? Yes, link in my signature Why did you start it? I have a lot of opinions I want to share, and Facebook wasn't giving me what I needed for that. I wanted to document my thoughts on things that matter to me. And I wanted somewhere I can send people who want to know more about my opinions What's its theme? I tend to focus on religion and politics, with a little bit of extra thrown in there from time to time. Do you update it regularly? I started it this year, and have tried to update it at least weekly, but I have gotten a little behind lately. Always needing new ideas of what to write about. Do you get paid to do it? No. I don't even think more than a few people read it. Maybe once I get enough regular readers I will put a GoogleAD on there or something. Or do you have one but find that you just don't give it the attention it needs? Part of it is lack of material, and part is lack of time.
