That's not far from me. August is a great month around here, our best weather by far. I'd be glad to give you some ideas of stuff to do, if you give me a few parameters about what you like to do. :D

I'd really like to add this to our school day. I could certainly use the quiet time during the day. Do you know of any specific recommendations for length of time spent reading by age or grade? I'll have a 1st and 3rd grader in the fall. the 3rd grader can easily read to herself for an hour or more, but my little guy who is still learning has as harder time being still for very long.

I have two orders that say "on order" and two that do not. My AT was very strict about only ordering what was absolutely necessary to start the year. I have lots more to order as soon as we are allowed to add those.

Does anyone have a schedule for 2011-2012? I'd like to know start date, holidays, and end date. Thanks!

Our favorite notebooking pages come from notebookingpages.com :D

There is a schedule online somewhere that combines year 1 and year 2. It doesn't leave out much reading, so it's quite full.

I'd look into Math Mammoth.
I loved RightStart, but it ended up being too much for me. Math Mammoth is the complete opposite, no parent interaction required at all!
For what it's worth, I found the perfect balance in Singapore Math. You may want to look into that as well.

Hurray! Ours should be here soon. I'm excited! :D

This looks great! I wish I had had it for this last year, but now I can look forward to using it in a few years.

We did Guesthollow American History this past school year. I tweaked it a bit. My dd enjoyed it. :D

My hands-on 5yo enjoyed RightStart B this year, although he would tell you that it was boring, which means it moved much too slow for him. His older sister did level C and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the drawing portion. RightStart has some great hands-on activities! :D

Hurray! I was very curious as to what this book would be. :D

Sounds about right to me. I wouldn't worry about adding a foreign language if you are doing CC, since I believe that is part of their memorization stuff. :D

I've been to the website, but I just don't get it. How do you figure out where to start? Anyone have some basic instructions for me?
We used a combo of Singapore Math 3 and RightStart Math C last year and plant to use TT5 this fall. Although I've been seriously reconsidering TT5, but that's a whole other thread.

I'll celebrate my 12th wedding anniversary this coming August 13th.

We continue math, practicing memory work, and grammar. We participate in any natural learning moments that happen and do lots of pleasure reading.

Wow! I had no idea there was a related posts feature. I never scroll down that far. :blushing:

My kids love making pocket books. :D
ETA: We've done various history pockets, literature pockets and theme pockets from Evan-Moor.

Handwriting Curriculum
in K-8 Curriculum Board
Posted
In Handwriting Without Tears, which is the only handwriting curriculum I have any experience with, students learn proper pencil grip, proper paper placement and proper letter formation. For example my son likes to make is lowercase b like a six, but it is meant to be draw with a line straight down and then come back up and around to the bottom again. I think even copying dotted lines on a sheet wouldn't have taught the correct steps to form the letter. Seeing it on the page in a 1, 2, 3 step process was much more helpful to him than anything else I tried.
