  1. I was waiting for today to see the catalog before I made a final decision about staying or leaving CVA. The offerings in their catalog will not meet my family's needs in any way. I will be sending in my paperwork to MP3 tomorrow.

I'm disappointed. I really dislike making this change, but CVA has left no options for my students to be successful next year if I stay.

  2. I returned some assets and library items last August at the local orientation meeting. They still have not been shown as returned. :glare: I keep being told that they are behind on returning items. Really? I'm not buying it.

"After thee three day sign up period closes we will fill the available spots from each trip’s RSVP list by a drawing. This way everyone also has an equal chance of getting to go. We will send confirmation emails out to everyone the next business day (ie: the following Thursday afternoon) after RSVP requests are closed, letting families know if they were selected for the final field trip list or not."

  4. It says above the list of field trips:

"We've had several complaints about field trips filling up too soon and families having difficulties accessing sign-ups. We are thrilled that these opportunities are so popular and we are looking for ways to better accommodate the demand. In the meantime, to make the current process more equitable, we will open coming field trips up for RSVP's for 3 days (Monday through Wednesday). Everyone who would like to participate in the field trips will have equal access to register during the three day sign-up period."

  5. I really think body modifications should be decided by the individual when they are of age...

:iagree: I feel very strongly about this. There is no going back once you've made modifications. I would never make a decision to modify another adult's body, yet it is legal and acceptable to permanently modify children, including newborns, bodies.

  6. That was interesting. Comparing salaries for teachers at my local elementary vs. ATs at Valley, my local teachers are earning significantly more and in many cases nearly double the salary. I wonder if it is due to a difference between one actually teaching and the other moving paperwork.

  7. Mine has not been yet. Although I followed all the instructions, so I don't know why it hasn't. I haven't heard that there was a problem with it. I'd guess that my AT just hasn't got around to it yet.

[rant]I'm so glad I had to have it done by the 10th. The next monthly review is open to submit, yet my first one hasn't been accepted yet.[/rant]

  8. **I feel like the standard to which I am held is higher than the standard to which the ATs are held.**

This sums up exactly how I feel, which is really pissed off about it. Why is it only the parents that have to comply with deadlines? I certainly don't get to be "too busy" to reply to CVA in a timely manner.

  9.

I have 2(#) children ranging in age from 6 to 8 years old.

    Among my kids, my (age)8

    year old (daughter/son)daughter

    gets along (choice adjective) well

    with his/her (age)6

    year old (brother/sister)brother

because(your thoughts) she loves him, he is her best friend, she likes to take care of him, they have always been together and had each other.

I don't know if this has made any difference in their relationship but we follow the ideas of attachment parenting, had a family bed when they were younger and the number 1 rule in our house has always been love each other. They don't always get along, but their times when they are unhappy with each other usually only last 5 minutes and they go right back to playing/cuddling/whatever they were doing. I expect when they are 12 and 14 they will have a whole different relationship. :D

  10. Why why why do I feel this compelling need to notebook, do worksheets, have something "concrete" to "show" for what they've learned. I mean, isn't just them LEARNING the material the end result?

My daughter started the Island series two weeks ago. Without a word from me she has started notebooking what she has learned from it. She has lovely lists of subject and object pronouns, a description of definite and in definite articles, a list of the eight parts of speech and some other stuff. Writing things down helps her remember and she enjoys being able to look back at it later.

Maybe you could let your child decide if they want to notebook what they have learned. I provide my children with notebooks, dividers for each curriculum they have and some appropriate paper like graph paper in the math section, plain lined paper in the grammar section, lined paper with boxes for pictures in the history section and let them do as they please with it. If they draw a picture or make a map for something I have them add it to their notebook. For my children, giving them the option to notebook without requiring everything be notebooked has let them figure out what is important to them and helped them remember it.

  11. I'm an organized person and I have detailed information for weekly check-ins and monthly reviews easily accessible. The new requirements will take at least an hour per child for monthly reviews and our weekly check-ins have been taking about 30 minutes per child. In addition, I am going to have to re-write our WSLPs very carefully.

This is coming very close to the edge of being not worth the effort to do the paperwork and stay in CVA. If DH hadn't spent most of the last 3 years unemployed I would have dropped out of CVA already. I admit I am spoiled by the wealth of resources we have had access to by enrolling in CVA.

  12. Also this:

"***PLEASE note: If I speak to your student on the phone for weekly contact. I am typing our conversation directly into the monthly review under the SLP comments section. You will be able to read these comments and use them to help you provide input. You will still need to provide your input into the parent comments box, but it will be helpful. If your student is checking in via email, you will also have this information, and using that as a guideline for your input for monthly reviews will again be helpful. Can you see where I am going with this! The more complete the weekly check-ins the easier it will be to provide input for your student’s monthly review."
