  1. "We have been asked to make sure a timeline is present within the monthly reviews in addition to what the student has been working on. Where did the student start…….. Where did the student end….. and what was covered in between. Last they would like a timeline, which means a goal for the following month. (Please note: you can write up your goals for any length of time, for example if you would rather state goals for three months at a time that is perfectly okay!)"

  2. My AT has assigned monthly review due dates based on last name. A - M is due on the 10th and N - Z is due on the 15th.

Here are the instructions I was sent:

"I am going to continue to ask that you read through your WSLP for each subject and find the goals (click on “more details†under the subject title) that your student has worked on for the month. Please paste them into the comments box for that subject. Then state what your student has worked on to meet these goals, or is working on to meet these goals. Include any test or quizzes they may have taken. Include any skill they may be struggling with, or in turn a skill they mastered easily."

  3. My first monthly review was due yesterday. It will be a day late, but I'll get it done today.

In the past I've tried to go 1st of the month to end of the month. That makes this review difficult though since it would only have 3 days on it. I'm think of using our whole first week and then going 1st of the month to the end of the month.

What dates do you use for your monthly reviews? What dates are you using for this first review?

  4. Last year our AT often gave us the choice of answering questions or sending work samples for our check in. My kids really dislike check in and answering the questions, so we sent work samples whenever we could. It was much easier for me than having to push them to answer the questions and it took a lot less time for me to scan a few pages.

My husband suggested just exporting the schedule from HS Tracker and emailing that. When I said that contacts have to come directly from the students, he suggested emailing it to my kids so they could forward it. LOL>>

I use HST+ too. This sounds like a fabulous idea! ;)

  6. I have a large Rainbow order that was placed on the 23rd and a small one that was placed on the 25th. I called Rainbow to check on their status. Both were shipped late waiting for backordered items. The first shipped on the 29th and the second on the 30th. They said I should expect both packages to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

You can get information about your order by calling Rainbow Resource. You will need your purchase order number which in on your requisition on the mycva site. They don't offer tracking (that I am aware of) when your ordered is purchased with a purchase order, so they can't give you an exact date.

  7. 1. How do you decide whether to read a book aloud to your child or have them read it on their own? My children are 8 and 6. I read them all of our "school" books. I like to read aloud. :D I also read to them at bedtime and that is either a book of their choosing or one I choose. Any books that are listed as optional in our curriculum that I don't read aloud to them, they can read to themselves. Although I have occasionally assigned a short book (that could be read in 30 minutes) to my 8 year old as part of her school work. They have a 30 minute quiet reading period each school day in the morning and they read quietly or to each other after I finish their bedtime story. They also read in the car. :blushing: We do a lot of reading.

    2. If you read your oldest a classic (with or without the youngers participating), do you end up reading it again in a few years to the youngers? Yep. If it's a classic it's worth reading more than once. :001_smile:

    3. What you do think of adaptations and/or abridged versions of classics? If you use them, at what age do you phase them out? What series of adapations do you prefer? Do you read them aloud or have them read them independently? The only adaptions or abridged books we read are from the Usborne Young Readers Series. We have quite a few of these books and my kids have enjoyed reading them as they work on their reading skills. They may read them for as long as they want to. Eventually, I think they will tire of the easy reading level. I do not read them aloud, they are only read independently. The other adaptations I allow are Jim Weiss's recordings. We <3 him.

    Hope this helps!

  8. I have a welcome letter from my AT, but nothing about contact requirements. She did mention that she is expecting contact this week. I looked at the calendar for Valley and the first contact week isn't until next week. Are they planning on letting us out a week early if they are starting contact a week early? :001_huh:

  9. We're starting again on Monday. I'm excited, but a little bit nervous since we are using some new curriculum this year. I planned a light-ish week for our first week and then we will be working on everything the next week.

I have really high hopes for this year to be a fabulous year. And crossing my fingers that it works out that way. :D

  10. Ok, I'm wearing a blue sundress with grey flowers on it. I have long curly hair. I'm not nearly as interesting to look at as the Mona Lisa. :001_smile:

  11. I'll be there. I have no idea what I'll be wearing and I don't know if I will have my kids with me. My husband is home tomorrow, so I'm tempted to leave the kids at home. I'll just have to see how the morning goes.

  12. cindergretta - so you're saying that if my child scored low in the history portion of the test, CVA would offer help and I am free to turn that help down?

Could my action plan be that I plan to cover that material in a different grade?

What I don't want to happen is to end up having to make daily contact, send daily work samples, etc. I want my time to be spent furthering my children's education, not jumping through hoops because the public school system teaches xyz in grade 3 and I'm teaching it in grade 4.

"My kids test very well on the MAP. They could easily fail the history and science on the MSP." - JoAnn

This is exactly how I feel and see our testing going. Since I won't teach to the test, it looks like I'll be opting out.
