  1. Question for those with/ recovering from mild covid- have/ did you used OTC meds to help when at home? We have yet to have it but I work with the public, so I am expecting it to hit our home in the next few weeks. I wanted to make sure we have some basics like ibuprofen, Mucinex, etc. on hand and was wondering if there were any items others found helpful.

I really like her videos but this is the first year I tried her 30 day yoga thing. After 4 days I'm packing it in. I had back surgery last year that corrected my most serious problem but I still have lower lumbar issues. There are moves I've been told by my doctor and physical therapist that I absolutely shouldn't do. Most of the time I can modify or do something else, but because of this I think it's better if I just pick and choose which videos to do.

That said, I really like the way Adriene talks you through everything and tells you to just meet your body where you are. Still, the 30 day challenge isn't right for me. I plan to continue but do my own version of a 30 day challenge by going through her videos and choosing the ones that I know I can do without injury. I want to be challenged and not just do the easy ones but I also have to be careful.

FWIW, I feel like she's starting a bit harder than I remember last year's being (last year was the first of her challenges I've ever done. I usually just pick and choose or refer to her monthly calendar for ideas.)

Yup.  I'm up to date so far, but I am prepared to be flexible if I get busy or there are longer ones mid-week.

I used to watch her a lot, but I've been working on my own for the past six months.  I like to breathe more slowly than she allows for, but that's the case with all the yoga videos I have used.

It's good to be diverted out of my usual practice for a bit though.

    Ditto to the bolded.

To answer the question, I'm currently a day behind and this year I'm just going to be flexible- I've finally reached mostly daily consistency of doing something, so if I don't do any of the days over the weekend but do other activities, it's fine. I needed the daily discipline last year.

Police say they have recovered two cell phone videos and a diary in which Ethan talked about his plans to shoot up the school and murder students. The prosecutor says they are also considering charges against the parents.

Ironically, the shooter's mother wrote a blog post a few years ago in which she thanked the previous president for protecting her right to bear arms and she complained about schools where "kids come from illegal immigrant parents. Most of their parents are locked up. They don’t care about learning and threaten to kill [the teacher] for caring about their grades." She signed the post "A hard working Middle Class Law Abiding Citizen who is sick of getting f***ed in the ass and would rather be grabbed by the pussy."

    Charming.

    Wow... just wow.

  5. Coworker vaxed with 2 doses of Moderna caught it from their partner  just before the 6 month booster mark (partner wasn't sure if they caught it at work or somewhere else). Described it as a bad cold with lots of fatigue; temporarily lost taste/ smell; was out for full 10 days per work policy. Once the coworker returned, still took about 2-3 days before they felt 100% again.

  6. CDC site on Covid isolation says:

    Quote

I think or know I had COVID-19, and I had symptoms

You can be around others after:

    • 10 days since symptoms first appeared and
    • 24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
    • Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving*

*Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation

Note that these recommendations do not apply to people with severe COVID-19 or with weakened immune systems (immunocompromised).

Sounds like she'd have just cleared the timeframe by 2 days. I didn't see a distinction on the site about Delta vs. other strains.

Two national pharmacy chains automatically scheduled the second shot. But our mass site — we had to log in again and schedule the second shot after going home. We couldn’t get a three week interval, and had to schedule four weeks out. That was frustrating.

    Interesting. Thanks!

I have an appointment with our HMO, but the first I could get was December 11. There are a multitude of pop-up and community sites that I might opt for once my youngest is over their cold. If I choose a community site, then I wanted to have an idea of when they need to return for the 2nd dose. I had mine done at a mass vaccination site and both appointments were scheduled when I registered. I wish they were doing that again because it was super easy and fast.

Wait, what??? If the FDA voted Friday and the CDC voted today... isn’t that agreeing? What did I miss?

I was reading that Walensky has to give final approval and then they can start.

    ETA: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/11/01/world/covid-vaccine-boosters/heres-what-needs-to-happen-before-5-to-11-year-olds-can-get-the-pfizer-vaccine

It may be paywalled, but the gist is:

    Quote

The C.D.C. contemplates the panel’s suggestions, which the agency usually follows.

    • The C.D.C., which is led by Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, weighs in with final guidance, which influences how entities like states, hospitals and doctors’ offices distribute vaccines. In September, Dr. Walensky ignored the C.D.C. panel’s advice and recommended booster shots of Pfizer’s vaccine for frontline workers, aligning her agency’s guidance with the F.D.A.’s authorization.

    In the states

    • State health authorities typically adopt the C.D.C.’s guidance, though it is not binding.

    • Pediatric doses will begin to become available once the regulatory process is done, but the vaccination program will only reach full strength next week, Jeffrey D. Zients, the White House's pandemic response coordinator, said on Monday.

Are your shrimps previously frozen? I realize my skin is sensitive to Sodium tripolyphosphate which is found in Safeway brand frozen shrimp packages.

    Fascinating. Found this article: https://thefishsite.com/articles/warnings-of-sodium-tripolyphosphate-in-fish

Now I wonder if my hands breaking out when trying to peel raw shrimp is actually from this and not the shrimp. It didn't used to be a problem for me. Once shrimp are cooked, I'm fine. However, my mom has been noted as allergic to shrimp since being pregnant with me and my oldest is the same. They can't eat them or their mouths and ear canals start itching. I'm the same way with only scallops- other shellfish are fine.

DEI policies have been around long before the hysteria over CRT.  More likely the racists attacking CRT are expanding their attack to try to coat all diversity initiatives with the poison they’ve created.

  12. So yes to both, BUT...

When I saw fried pies, I thought of handheld fried pastelillos that my mom and grandma would make. Granted, they were more of the savory variety (like these) but you could also make them with a sweet filling. Since the Caribbean and the South are neighbors, it made natural sense to me that there would be something similar.

Arkansas is totally part of the South to me.

Oregon has fallen in line with teacher vaccine mandates according to this morning's announcement. Note that currently in Oregon, last I checked, there were no ICU beds in the southern district, one in the central district, and most seriously ill people in need of a bed were getting shipped to the Portland metro, which is almost at staffed bed capacity.  We're being told all non-life threatening ER visits should instead be directed to urgent care or primary care as ERs are full and overflowing.  Oregon has already deployed the national guard to help with logistical support and staffing, and is deploying another 500 (to make 2000 total?) on Friday.

Washington state has a teacher vaccine mandate: https://www.npr.org/sections/back-to-school-live-updates/2021/08/19/1029282381/teachers-in-washington-state-must-get-vaccinated-or-they-could-be-fired (private, public, and charter schools) Washington also has an indoor mask mandate.

Oregon teacher vaccine mandate: https://www.kptv.com/news/brown-announces-covid-19-vaccine-mandate-for-oregon-k-12-teachers-staff/article_27e51384-0112-11ec-9d6e-c3dfa750efc7.html  It's unclear whether it will apply to private schools or state universities.   Oregon has an indoor mask mandate.

California teacher vaccine mandate is vaccine or weekly testing, unless it has changed recently: https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/11/us/california-school-employees-vaccinated-newsom/index.html

Yes for CA, although Culver City Unified School District just upped it to students, staff, and faculty must be vaccinated by November. I assume they will also accept religious and medical exemptions: https://abc7.com/culver-city-school-district-covid-vaccine-mandate/10961547/

If your school has a Covid dashboard, how often is it updated?

Our school district hasn’t updated since Aug 13.  Ugh!

According to the school district where I work. Bolding is theirs:

    Quote

The data below represents the number of confirmed active COVID-19 cases among students and staff who were on a site(s) during their infectious period. This data will be updated regularly as cases are confirmed.
