How did the school find out the student was positive?

    And yeah wth.

The article wasn't clear on that:

    Quote

The school district did not share information about the student who came to school after a positive test or their parent. The parent refused to communicate with the Washoe County Health District staff or school officials, the health district said.

Just that by Tuesday, the student was in quarantine and doing virtual classes.

    Regarding pressing charges:

    Quote

"We are not seeking to invest our limited resources in bringing charges against the parent at this time," the health district said in a statement. "We are seeking cooperation from our community members."

no idea how reliable this news is but we will know tomorrow
    https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2021/08/10/newsom-to-announce-nations-first-vax-or-test-rules-for-teachers-1389805

“SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom plans to announce Wednesday that California will require all teachers and school employees to be vaccinated or submit to regular Covid-19 testing, the first such requirement in the nation amid growing Delta variant concerns, according to sources familiar with the plan.

Under the policy, school employees would have to show proof of vaccination to their districts. The move comes after three large California districts announced similar requirements on their own Tuesday and just two days after American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten voiced support for such a mandate.

The plan was described to POLITICO by sources who were not authorized to speak ahead of a Wednesday morning press conference at a school in the Bay Area. Until now, the recall-threatened governor had stopped short of requiring teacher vaccinations for the upcoming academic year.

The state's two major teachers unions — the California Teachers Association and the California Federation of Teachers — support the plan, sources said. CTA reports that nearly 90 percent of its members are vaccinated, based on a survey in March.”

Looks like they were right- https://abc7.com/vaccine-mandate-for-teachers-california-school-vaccinate-requirement/10944163/

So, I donate blood every 8 weeks (give or take things like my donation day was the day after I had my second covid shot, so I waited another 8 weeks because the location where I donate only offers it on 8 week cycles).  I've gotten information about my antibody status; they can tell that I have been vaccinated but have not been infected with covid because of the kinds of antibodies I have.

That said, the Red Cross is suspending covid antibody testing.  Not sure why; maybe they've suspended the convalescent plasma thing?

    According to their website:

    Quote

Last June – when much was still unknown about the COVID-19 virus – the Red Cross began testing all blood product donations for COVID-19 antibodies. With a majority of Americans now having received a COVID-19 vaccine and the discontinuation of convalescent plasma, the Red Cross has stopped testing for COVID-19 antibodies as of June 25, 2021.

I missed it by 1 week...

Has anyone had the credit show up in their bank account yet? Was it supposed to start today? (The 15th)? I don’t have it in my account. We attempted to opt out but I didn’t do it, just dh, so I think we didn’t really opt out.

Doesn’t really matter. I’m just curious. We got all the stimulus payments on the first day they were supposed to be deposited so I wondered.

Ugh.  We have been trying to opt out.  The website is terrible.  Our only is turning 18 next month so we are not eligible and will have to give it all back at tax time.

I got it this morning. I was happy to see our soon to to be 18 yo (3 more weeks to go) was not included in the amount sent.

eta: I did not have plans to opt out for our other two (both under 17). I've been in a wait and see mode. If we had received an amount for the soon to be 18, then I would have started the process to opt out for them.

  5. I did mine at a mass site. Once both shots were done, I emailed my PCP a copy of my card and it was added to my medical record.

My teens had their done with our health provider, so it was automatically to their records.

Chinese and Korean supermarkets carry tapioca starch because it is commonly used in cooking.

Yup. Personally, not a big deal to me because I don't like boba pearls in my tea. It just struck me as an odd thing to be running short of, but made sense logistically given the past year's supply issues. Here's an NPR article: https://www.npr.org/2021/04/24/990353928/boba-shortage-could-stretch-into-summer-leave-businesses-in-a-bind

  7. Bicycles. Still. Bought one as a gift for ds last month. It was 1 of 2 in that price range and style. Shopkeeper said his next ones wouldn't be available until late summer or fall.

I read in the news today that lumber supplies are dwindling, which doesn't surprise me since construction costs have gone up around here. Also, not too long ago I read that the tapioca starch used to make the balls in boba teas would soon not be available for purchase and that coffee/ tea shop merchants would soon be out.

I am an old time boardie who has chosen to lurk this year for the covid info. I felt like I should come out of hiding for this thread so NotaNumber can add my data to her compilation.

I had my 2nd dose of Moderna yesterday. Unfortunately, I agreed to let a student nurse practice on my arm. Got a "scared to do it" slow push through the skin instead of a jab and a lot of painful jiggling of the needle due to shaking hands. Poor guy. He was practically in tears when he saw the blood and realized I was going to bruise pretty badly. The RN supervising was actually chatting with someone else, so not helpful.

At any rate, I had sore arm and strong fatigue that resolved within 48 hrs with the first dose. I am not getting that lucky this time. My arm has a visible, hard knot, tingling and numbness when not on fire. Tylenol and anything else over the counter does not abate it at all. Ice helps, but only limited because the pain is so bad I can tolerate the ice pack against it for at most three or four minutes. I am currently running a fever of 103F and just woke up from a five hour nap. I am home alone so going six hours without something to drink has resulted in some dehydration. I have gone to refill my water bottle, which made me cold so my teeth are chattering, and am back in bed where I belong. Despite the hassle of being sick and in pain - totally normal for me, my body goes bananas over any vax - I am elated! We can breathe easy.

Dh had JnJ and one would have thought he did not even get a shot. Typical for him. Middle son had JnJ at his grad school campus before the pause. Youngest and eldest sons have appointments next week on Friday for Pfizer. Youngest needed to wait until after his last final exam in case he does a repeat of me. Eldest boy had his master's thesis to submit this month and has secluded himself from the world until he submits it Tuesday. He has been a vaccine reactive, miserable person his whole life. Every single vaccine. Poor guy. Since we will be gone, he is going to grandma's house post vaccine. This is the boy that had a fever of 104.5 and tried sleeping for 18 hrs straight after his measles booster to move to campus as an undergraduate. He sleeps so deep, it is difficult to wake him, so grandma knows to wake him up frequently to force fluids.

Both of the grandmas had Pfizer in Jan/Feb. Our daughter and son in law each have their first doses. So this just leaves our two young grandsons. But now we will be able to gather safely and enjoy time with them because we will all be protecting them with our vaxes. I cannot wait for our summer family camping trip! N is a real miniature fisherman and has lots of plans for being on the boat with his PapaM (Dh).

Your reaction sounds like my brother's 2nd Moderna shot. His doctor suggested 600 mg of Tylenol and warm compresses on the injection site. He ran a fever of 102.5 on and off for about 3 days. He also broke out in what looked like a red, streaky rash but said it didn't itch. It took about 4-5 days for my brother to feel better. I hope your symptoms pass quickly!

  9. 2 days post Moderna, shot #2 for my relative. Fever broke in the night but they woke with their body feeling sore and said their injection site is now swollen, warm, and itchy. They also felt stiff. No rash. They had a phone appointment with their PCP and were directed to phone daily for a check-in, to use hot compresses on the arm, and to take 600mg of ibuprofen.

  10. Two relatives of mine got their 2nd Moderna shots in the last week. One only had fatigue -- funny (ironic) to me because I would have expected this relative to have more post-vaccine reactions because they are generally pretty sensitive to medications. The other one got their shot midday yesterday and by the evening had chills, muscle aches, and "the worst headache I've ever had." Today, that relative says they feel like they've been hit by a truck and still have a low grade fever (99.7 -- it went up to 102.5 last night).

It's been so interesting to see our different reactions...

I’m about 22-23 hours post 2nd dose of Pfizer. Mild sore arm that’s fading. However, I just started a low grade fever (100.5°F) after coming home from a short trip of store errands. I might have a bit of a mild headache, too. Decided to plop myself on the couch for the rest of today.

Quoting myself- now at 28.5 hours and feeling fine. Fever and headache gone. Fatigue has lessened. Feeling certain that after a good night’s sleep I’ll be fine tomorrow.
