  1. My darling does work in the field. Our options were to see him for 5 days a month or move so we can be together more. We are planning on schooling during his 21 days on, then taking off and spending his 7 days off playing as a family. I think it will work well for us! And, his 21 days on duty are 12 hour days, so we WILL be seeing him every day! We have been an oilfield family for almost 8 years, so odd schedules are our norm. We are looking forward to being together again. I am already tired of being a single mom and it's only been a few weeks, it might be a LONG few months! LOL, at least we have an awesome goal at the end!
  2. We were VERY lucky to find an amazing house right at the end of our house-hunting trip. It had just gone on the market hours before. I was shocked by how expensive the homes are, but I didn't find the prices at Wal-Mart to be much different than the prices at my local Wally-World right now. In fact, the milk was cheaper in Williston! I can't wait to start this journey...everything has fallen into place, we found the house up there, then came home and our current house had already shown twice and had an offer on it. We are closing on the sale at the end of this month, but we can't close on our new house for another month because there are so many closings up there that they are THAT back-logged. So, my darling is up there working, living in a hotel while I am single parenting and am getting ready to go camp out with the kiddos at my folks for a month! It is a crazy time!
  3. We are moving from Colorado to Williston!!! We homeschooled one child for 2 years, the others were in public, now we are bringing them all home and adding the youngest into the school program!! I am so excited to be teaching my kiddos again! The problem is that I have heard that ND is a pretty rough place to homeschool. I was hoping that some of you could give me some info and/or tips. TIA!
  4. Thank you so much everyone. I am hopeful we can make it through this week and next will be better. Thanks again.
  5. Thank you all so much! I will try the white board idea tomorrow and I love the idea of the note to dad too! You are all so wonderful. And yes, I will work on my perfectionistic tendencies too.
  6. I have not been on track for my DD 7. She had a rough year last year in PS. She was reading on a 5/6 grade level, but the teacher wouldn't let her read anything the other 1st graders weren't reading. She was bored, wanted to add details to her drawings, didn't get her work done becasue she didn't see the point in doing it--anyway, all this resulted in the teacher wanting to retain her in first becasue she was concerned about DD being able to handle the workload in 2nd grade. DD was doing pretty good this year, if I could get her to work, but she really doesn't want to do anything for me except read. She is a perfectionist who is terrified of getting anything wrong, so that results in a lot of tears and hair pulling out on both our parts. Before Halloween we were finally getting into a pretty good grove and were able to complete everything before DS got home from his half day of PS Kinder. Then we started losing our way. A very close friend, a young girl about to graduate from highschool who I had babysat from the day she was born until I went away to college, was tragically killed in an accident. I can't seem to pull it together. We have VERY sporadically done any school, and even on days we did, it was only part of the subjects I had planned. Now DH is threatening to send dd back to PS if I don't get it together NOW and get school going full steam this week. I tried this morning, and I seem to be back at square one with her not wanting to do the work I request of her. I was using the file system, but I am so far off I don't even know where to start on that. I was putting her work into a weekly binder for her, but she seems to be getting frozen when she sees all that work. I either need a hug or a kick in the tail. Maybe both. Thanks for any input . Sorry it's so long. I just needed to get this off my chest.
  7. Thank you all so much! You sure have given me a lot to think about!
  8. I would do it sooner rather than later. It will help those muscles to relax and and release any nerves that are pinched before they get too much inflamation. If you wait too long it can take more treatments to get thebsame results! Good luck!
  9. Thanks so much! I am about to push the button to order SWR so, I am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions or reccomendations before I do! Thanks again for any more help!
  10. Thanks so much to both of you! My dd is reading well, so the goal is spelling and not reading. I was glad etc was compared with starfall...she has already been using that and I haven't seen any improvement. I think I may go with swr! Thanks!
  11. Both of these programs have been recomended to me. My goal is to teach my dd phonics to help her spelling. Thanks so much for any input!
  12. I checked out phonics pathways from the library, but she just read the words without retaining any of the phonics rules... I don't know anything about the other programs. I guess I just don't know where to start with her. Thanks for the suggestions, I will look at those programs!
  13. My dd is a good reader (2nd grade reading on a 6th grade level) but she gets very frustrated with spelling..."Mom, you have to have an e on the end of the word. You can't spell great like that, it's GRATE not GREAT!" I know she needs to go back and learn phonics, but what program should I start with? TIA for all your help!
  14. I would take it as a compliment! You have thought of that, and it is a wonderful thing to be able to give your child a head start on all that learning it took us so many more years to aquire! Think of all the doors it will open in the future! It's not as if you are forcing something on them, you are giving them what they need. If you had a special needs kid that was not progressing as quickly you would still be doing the same thing, giving your child what they need. Every child has his or her own strengths and we play to them. I wouldn't bother to respond to those snarky comments. Some things need no defense.:D
  15. She may need a mega b vitamin. I would really encourage you to insist they check all her vitamin levels with blood work before doing the bc route. I know bc's have a really big negative impact on a lot of us and it may not be the first thing to try. If she is in the throws of one of these now you could run to a good vitamin store and pick up a "mega b" suppliment and have her take it today! If she has enough she will just pee out the excess (it is water soluble) and it may make your world much more calm. My ob suggested this for me and my bf's midwife also (and without any discussion of the between her and I) told her to do this. I am really hoping you make it through this in one piece! 16. :iagree: :iagree: the only problem with it is that then you can't shut the door on a mess when company comes over!
  17. My uncle had to cut out ALL caf. due to stomach and heart issues. He only drinks water and herbal (naturally decaf) tea. He said to cut your intake of coffee in half every two days and to be sure to drink at LEAST a gallon of water every day. Long term use of caf leads to chronic dehydration, which is a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. It was totally worth it for him, he has been off al caf for over 12 years now. He said he doesn't drink decaf because it still has caf in it. He was a diehard coffee drinker who drank only coffee all day long. He said to tell you it was hard and he was sceptical at first too, but it was worth it a million times over! Good luck and HTH! Loislane:001_smile:
  18. I have heard Dave say that you never early withdraw from retirement unless it is to avoid going bankrupt. With the early withdrawl peniltys and taxes it's just not worth it. If you have some extra money that you have not yet put into a retirement account but is just sitting there, then it should go on the debt, but other than that I'm pretty confident his answer would be, "No!" Good luck! We are on baby step 2 as well and can't wait to be moving on to 3!:tongue_smilie:
  19. Too much progestrone can also cause your hair to fall out.
