  1. This has been great and I love all of the diversity. Makes life really colorful and unexpected. I am going to enjoy getting to know each of you. Hope you all have had a great Monday! :)
  2. Thank you all for such welcoming responses! I look forward to getting to know you all better and hopefully have some input on future post. You all have no idea what you have meant to me in my homeschooling journey. :)
  3. Hello everyone, I have wanted to post for a while now, but feel like I really don't have a lot to say that hasn't already been brought up. I have been following this forum since the old boards. My Kids are now 16 and 14. We have homeschooled from the beginning. My question is sort of a way to introduce myself. Not in a way that exalts. One of the reasons I love this forum is because of its diversity. Well here goes. This is me. Evangelical Christian (SBC) I am 35 soon to be 36 Married for 17.5 years Some college. No degree Children-girl 16 son 14 Active in our church. My kids do go to the movies with friends, have sleepovers, go to sleepovers, my daughter has a boyfriend (sweet boy by the way) She is going to prom this year. We listen to secular and christian music. We watch a variety of movies. We allow video games. My kids are thoughtful, love each other, and sometimes want to kill each other. They rock my world and I am so proud of them. I guess I seem to be rambling, but I just want people to know that Homeschoolers come in all shapes and sizes and that this journey has been amazing. Are you like me? or us? If not what makes us different? Nice meeting you all :)
  4. My 8th grade son uses this book. He had a horrible time with spelling and I wasn't sure what to use. I tried this book because of suggestions from this board. It has been a great help with him grasping the spelling rules. He has improved much with his spelling abilities. It's a fairly inexpensive book. Each rule is practiced in-depth, and I think it was well worth the money spent. Hope this works for you.
  5. Where we find ourselves is that she will enter her Senior year 16 turning 17 in September. By our public schools standards she would be a Junior, but her workload has her currently with enough credits to graduate this next year. Thank you all for your advice. How does this look? Year 4 English Comp 1/Public Speaking - 1st semester College Algebra/Psychology - 2nd semester Chemistry Anatomy and Physiology Advanced Math (Would this be overkill? What would you recommend?) U.S. Government Spanish 2 P.E. (1/2 semester) She gets a lot of community service hours. Our HS group has formed a Student Council for our High Schoolers. She has been the secretary for 2 years. In addition she has taken piano for 9 years and handbells for 6 years. She is in our Youth Choir and Praise Band. She organized Operation Christmas Child for our youth group this year and collected over 100 boxes. She is very well rounded and personable. Thank you all and I welcome any additional suggestions
  6. Hello all, I am looking for advice for my college bound daughter. What would you recommend for her final year. We will be duel enrolling for Eng. Comp. 1 and public speaking in the 1st semester of year 4 and college algebra and psychology in the 2nd semester. Do you see anything that you would add to that final year. We have homeschooled from the beginning and this will be my first time with the college process. Thank you for your help. Year 1 Bible English/Lit Algebra 1 World History 1 Physical Science Music Drama Year 2 Bible English/Lit Algebra 2 World History 2 Biology Spanish 1 Health Music Drama Year 3 (Currently in this year) Bible English/Lit Geometry American History Biology 2 Latin State Studies Creative Writing (1 semester) Economics (1 semester) Music Drama Year 4 This is where I would like help for rounding out her education. She is interested in a business degree or counseling degree. She wants to work with people. Sorry if I'm all over the place, but reality just hit that it is closer than I expected. Thank you.
  7. Wonderful Suggestions! I'm going to start figuring out the route I want to take with these ideas. Thank you all.
  8. I am wanting to start a topic of the week next year with both of my teens. Could you give me some suggestions that would lead to thinking and great discussions. Topics can be about anything. I have not decided how to use this as of yet. Just trying to get ideas first. Thanks for your help.
  9. I was never read to in any fashion. The only book we had in our home was the big family bible that just laid on the coffee table. I remember going to the library on my own a few times when I was a kid. I started to read books for pleasure when I was in middle school.
  10. I got a bad case of chigger bites last year. I counted over 100 bites. I also got poison oak at the same time all around my ankles and behind my knees. I was MISERABLE! Anyways, I think the itching from the poison oak took away from the itching from the chigger bites. I finally broke down and bought some Chiggerex. Instant relief. I was with a group of girls that heard the nail polish tale and they were going around with pink dots everywhere.
  11. I have to go with coffee! I drink a pot every morning :001_smile:
  12. I have been reading the boards since they were the old boards. That was in 2002. I joined yesterday.
  13. We just recently cleaned our plastic patio furniture. It is white so it was horribly dirty. I tried the magic eraser and it took tons of elbow grease and then I gave up. We then used a pressure washer. It worked wonders! If you can't borrow one maybe you can load up your furniture and take it to a car wash?
  14. k-5 elementary 6-8 middle school 9-12 high school Mississippi now has their incoming 8th graders taking Algebra 1. It counts as a high school credit.
  15. I have been a lurker since the old boards. I have gained so much information over the years! We will be entering our 10th year homeschooling. This will also be our 3rd cycle of the WTM history method.
