  1. This is horrible!! I wish your experience had been better. Kids (and adults) can be so mean.
  2. :iagree: Excedrin Migraine can work sometimes. Ibuprofen is generally useless. When I said ice earlier, I meant an ice pack...the blue kind.
  3. Lucky! (to borrow a phrase from Napolean Dynamite...still love that movie). We believe in lifelong learning right? You are putting it into action. I will go back if I have to wait until I'm 70! The best students in my undergrad classes were over 35. They added pertinent information to discussion and were there because they really wanted to be there. I am so happy for you and YOU WILL BE GREAT!!
  4. I hope by now she is better. I am praying for the both of you though b/c I know how bad migraines and chronic headaches can be. No one knows until they have them. I have had meningitis and I get headaches sometimes that rival those... Caffeine helps, so does ice. See a neuro if she has more. OTC is not going to cut it and she needs (you need to keep) something on hand in case one comes on.
  5. Awesome!!! I am so glad for you and your pup.
  6. No worries! Take care of yourself. You will feel better really soon. Mine was no problem, and I hope yours is the same.
  7. Her private school closed. There is not another classical school in the area and her parents do not want to send her to a generic private school. The public schools around her are terrible. They live in our neighborhood and we have sons that are the same age.
  8. Great! I will look at it! It's amazing how different I look at curriculum now that I am home schooling vs. public schooling and even head of school at a private school. I wanted the best for my students, don't get me wrong, but what is best for the group isn't best for my kids or my niece...
  9. I home school my four kiddos and taught high school. My sister is now going to home school her 9th grader. She wants me to help her customize curriculum for her. I follow the Classical/Charlotte Mason method. I was thinking about Apologia for Science and MUS for Math. Not sure on Logic or Latin (she has had two years of Latin). Not sure on vocab, history, literature, etc. I would LOVE all of your wisdom and suggestions.
  10. I struggle with insomnia too. I was posting after 3 am uggh! Not getting sleep seriously aggravates your immune system. I had lots of hospital stays with pneumonia, etc until I got my sleep cycle "under control". Yes, Your mother is toxic. Don't feel bad. Do what is right for your family and that is taking care of yourself REALLY.
  11. You said to tell you you were not a horrible person. You are not a horrible person. :tongue_smilie:
  12. I know they may turn up their noses, but my kids like an omelette with sauteed onion, spinach and mozzarella. Just barely wilt the spinach though. A little olive oil, then add the vidalia onions first to brown, then the eggs, then the spinach, stir it in barely, sea salt and pepper...take it out and add mozzarella after you put it on the plate (you don't have to use as much so it has the flavor but less fat).
  13. You have been most helpful. We all hope that the dog gets better.:grouphug:
  14. Absolutely NOT! I read the first post and was thinking they were still at home.
  15. There seems to be some confusion... You should always work with your vet, but do your own research and talk to your vet about it. Same thing with your dr. My point was that you try what is tried and true and take him/her in to the vet. Talk to the dr. about what you found out. Talk to him/her about what is a fair price for treatment and what is necessary. People get desperate b/c they love their pet and unfortunately there are many vets who are out for $$ and will do unnecessary tests, especially at the emergency vets. I am so glad that he is recovering. That is the point. As soon as I read your post (which was in the middle of the night) I called my sister. She had a bout with Parvo once and she and her vet worked through it. Turns out, some of it was Parvo and some was Clostridium (sp?). It was difficult to figure out. The things I mentioned were not home remedies, they were first lines of defense and you should ALWAYS go to the VET and do your own research so you can make informed decisions. :grouphug:
  16. Listen to your vet. Do your own research. Read your posts and check them against reasearch, ask the vet again, then pray for wisdom. You will get through this. Jennifer
  17. You say you hate breeders and that she needs to give antibiotics. Chicken broth, fluids, pediallyte are wrong, but fluids are right? I told her how to test for dehydration which can come on quickly and show that she needs to take her dog to an emergency clinic. My post also says "must get from your vet" and things like check with your vet, etc. The dog must drink, etc. Also ANTIBIOTICS: <LI class=ArticleContentBullet>Tylosin is an antibiotic categorized further as a "macrolide". Other members of this class of antibiotics include erythromycin, clarithromycin, azithromycin, spiramycin, and dirithromycin. If you are a vet tech, you would know this. Good breeders work WITH their vets not against them. They have great relationships. 17 years is a long time. My sister has world class shepherds...world team competitors which cost 20k plus and are imported, would she risk them over $900? I wouldn't offer ANY advice if I didn't know it was good. Yours seems to just be vets know everything...even bad ones and it is RUDE. Her training is sought out worldwide. People fly in on private jet for sessions with her. I just wanted to help someone in a desperate situation and called her because she loves the breed. Parvo is a wicked virus. Breeders know this and have experience with it. You might learn something from them.
  18. I suffer from migraines with aura and have for over ten years. Four days is a long time and you need to see your dr. Even if it subsides, you need to have something on hand b/c you will have another one at some point. Migraines are a disease of the meninges (the protective tissues covering the brain). Excedrin migraine might help b/c it has caffeine. Ibuprofen will not be effective. Caffeine is effective in the dilation of the blood cells or something like that and helps relieve the pain. If these continue, you will need to see a neurologist. Any major pain in your head is considered serious and should be treated. No one understands just how painful migraines are until you have one yourself...childbirth was not that difficult comparartively because at least there was relief between contractions! I hope you get relief soon. Blessings, Jennifer
  19. So...coffee is the first thing, then: Charlotte Mason's 6 Homeschool Volumes WTM Geography Matters (laminated maps, Trailguide to Learning) Simply Charlotte Mason dry erase board laminator Excel sharpies really nice 3 ring binders in black (best ones are from Ultimate Office) color coded everything bookshelves! google & my laptop pencil and paper (sometimes I forget that I can use that instead of my computer :D) my husband walking in the door after work!!!!
  20. If it's not Parvo... Sometimes they test positive for Parvo, but it's Clostridium. The treatment I mentioned in the earlier is the same except you need to add Probiotics (plain yogurt) to his food.
