  1. No, they holler about the people that eat fish and chicken (I don't). People who don't eat those as well as no eggs and dairy are vegans, not vegetarians. As for what curricula I use, it's a mix of suggestions from The Well Trained Mind, the Typical Course of Study listed on World Book's site (no child is on just one grade level on anything, though...) and several subjects we added in. I don't use a purchased curriculum. My kids are 9, 3, 3, and 0, but - although I won't get into it - I have had experience with having a teenager. I can take pictures of prices the next time I go shopping if you guys would like.
  2. Yes, see a lactation consultant. Don't let anyone else tell you you're not producing enough, should formula feed or supplement - most nurses and etc. know little or nothing about breastfeeding. Breastfed babies usually gain weight slower. Pumping doesn't show how much you're making, and the amount you make isn't as important as the amount of formula a baby is fed; with formula, a set amount has a set amount of vitamins, but breastmilk adjusts itself according to how much your baby drinks. If the baby drinks more, it will be more watery, if the baby drinks less, it will be more vitamin rich. That way, the baby always gets the amount of vitamins he/she needs. But your body needs your baby telling it how much to make and how watery to make it, so don't pump!
  3. Near Chicago. Let me see if I can remember what we had today... breakfast was homemade hashbrowns, cheese, and (real) oatmeal with bananna (I had an egg instead of hashbrowns). Lunch was homemade hummus with vegetables. We haven't decided on dinner yet, but I'm thinking of having veggie loaf. For snacks we had various fruit. I am taking about me to prove that everyone saying eating healthy is more expensive and it is impossible for it to not be is wrong; I am proving that because I am doing it. Do you understand?
  4. Ok, but then they have empty bellies later in the day, while if they had just gotten healthy food, they would have full bellies all day. Spending $5 on double cheese burgers for breakfast, and then $5 on double cheese burgers for lunch, is more than spending $10 on healthy ingredients in the morning to make both breakfast and lunch and having a little left over. People just see that $10 is more than $5, and don't think about the fact that they will be spending $5 more later.
  5. A veggie burger cost more than a double cheeseburger. Also, it was relevant because we were talking about feeding a family with double cheeseburgers, and I was explaining why I couldn't do that. A non-vegetarian family could just as easily eat what I eat. A vegetarian family, on the other hand, can't eat 3 double cheeseburgers. It's not that I am choosing to ignore them, I am just choosing not to say that these are all changeable things, and things that one knows when one begins a family, at risk of sounding more snarky. Which other post would you like me to address.
  6. The belief that filling bellies in the moment has nothing to do with how much you spend on food is the problem! If you eat nutrient-rich food, you will eat less overall, and therefore spend less. If you just fill your belly now with junk food, you will be hungry again and eat more junk food! The whole point of being hungry is that your body is craving nutrients.
  7. You are making up quotes. I never said should. I said if things were done naturally. I never said that was better or worst. And that would not feed my family (especially since most of my family is vegetarian). It would not provide any family the nutrients they need. Therefore they would be hungry more than 3 times a day, and would buy additional things to eat. And even $15 a day is more than I spend on healthy food.
  8. I'm not familiar with many card games. But yes, children must first learn to use manipulatives in order to understand the facts; that's how children's brains work. Even The Well Trained Mind suggests children learn with manipulatives, and do well with that, before memorizing facts.
  9. Well we don't eat a sandwich every day. You're right, the only 100% effective for of birth control is abstinence. I never said the choice should or shouldn't be made; just that it is a life choice. Strawberies don't cost that much where I shop, and fast food must cost more. It costs $25+ to feed my family one meal of fast food. As I said I spend a max of $100 a week on groceries. If I pretend I don't also buy non-food with that, that's about $14 per day to feed my family. And how long does 4 double cheeseburgers last your family? How long does a pint of strawberries last? The cheeseburgers may seem cheaper in the moment, but if you bought fast food cheeseburgers for every meal for a week, how much would you spend? How much would you spend making healthy food for a week? How much will you spend on health care eating unhealthy, vs how much will you spend on it if you eat healthy?
  10. Well, here are two that offer ad-supported dial-up access for 10 hours http://www.juno.com/start/landing.do?page=www/free/index http://www.netzero.net/start/landing.do?page=www/free/index
  11. No. Memorizing the facts and being able to recite them does not mean you understand WHY they are a fact. Like being able to say 5 + 5 = 10 does not mean the child understands that if he has 5 objects and gets another 5, he will have 10; and without that understanding, he's going to have trouble when he needs to do 55 + 55 or something.
  12. It's for security reasons. If there is a chargeback, or something, they'd just be out of the money. But if you have a bank account attached, they can take the money out of there if there is a problem getting it from the credit card. They have to do this since they can't really do the same collection methods banks can. They act like a bank, but purposely don't become one so that they aren't regulated like one and can hold money, freeze accounts, etc. without having to have a valid reason. You're either going to have to attach a bank account, or use another card without actually logging in to paypal. Oh, and the reason they may have had a problem with this, but not with other purchases, may be because of how many things (cards & accounts) the seller has connected to their account. They may have an easy way of getting it back from other sellers if something goes wrong, but not this one. And/or it may have to do with how many large transactions the seller has done in the past.
  13. No. I spend $75 - $100 a week at the grocery store (on groceries, cleaning supplies, etc.). Buying healthy food is actually cheaper than buying unhealthy food. Then you guys are eating WAY too many carbs. Having a family before you can (or having one bigger than you will ever be able to) take care of them if you get sick or lose your job is a life choice.
