  2. Am about to go for a swim. Callanetics is very similar to barre. Not appealing to all, since it's not super-new or anything. There are some new DVDs. Not much time at the moment, so I'm copying and pasting the info I took from other forums and here. I know that Callanetics is something people either really love or seriously dislike but I would vote for Super Callanetics as one of the hardest barre workouts ever produced, if not, THE hardest. Although these are all dated, many/all are kick-butt workouts! I love these workouts. As I was doing this and as I've been doing recent similar ballet-based workouts, it occurred to me that I wish I'd stuck with this form of exercise rather than done years of heavy cardio. I feel that the latter bulked me up too much. Callanetics workouts, at least the ones I’ve seen are a bit slow at times and very, very calm and boring. Others have said that their abs got flatter, their pant legs got looser around the thighs, and they felt taller and leaner. Many turn to Callanetics when they’ve bulked up their thighs. It seems to lean them out really quickly. Callanetics, when done regularly, takes some down an entire size in clothes. My overall conclusion is that Callanetics is a great way for people to get into barre work, and if you are looking for a relaxing, yet challenging workout. Some may want something that moves a little more quickly, so I think it would be great in rotation with other barre work. “Of all the workouts that I've done, Callanetics is the workout that allowed me to drop a whole size in clothes without changing my diet or losing a single pound.   3. :iagree: My dc had to learn the hard way and they were told by our esthetician to avoid scrubs and over-exfoliating. Both increase oil production and are irritating. With breakouts and acne, gentleness is absolute key. I should have known better myself. I was an esthetician many years ago and was always told this during my studies. What works for our dc: * Exfoliating gently just once or twice a week. Younger skin does not need to be exfoliated as often as older skin does. The Clarisonic is great. Just make sure to get the brush head for sensitive skin. A very gentle wash cloth is very good also. Avoid scrubs and harsh things like that. Gentle, gentle, gentle. The skin needs to be treated like silk. Seriously. * My son's acne is more severe. He's been told to use Sulfur Soap and Lotion. Great results with that. He does that in the mornings. He uses Cetaphil at night. * My daughter's acne is not as severe. She uses Cetaphil twice a day. * They alternate nights - one night: the lowest Benzoyl Peroxide possible - 2.5 or 5%. the other night: vitamin E capsule - helps to heal the skin. Fabulous stuff for all. * Drinking enough water. * Making sure not to overdry the skin. Both use a very light, oil-free moisturizer every morning - Cetpahil has some moisturizers. The drier we make our skin and the more we fight the oiliness, the more the skin will rebel and produce even more oil. Don't overdry the skin. * They add some lemon/lime to their drinking water. This helps detox the liver. A healthy liver is essential for healthy skin. * Make sure that he's not constipated. Triphala capsules help with this. * My dc could never handle chelated zinc. Even on a full stomach. * I wish they'd eat healthier. Dd does. Ds has a long way to go in that area. * Limiting/avoiding cow's milk helps many. Milk and white sugar are the top two dietary culprits when it comes to acne. Hard to always carry out, however. HTH. That's about all I can remember.

Plus, they have nicer-looking skin. ;) Sharing this: Much of the research linking excess weight and an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, among other chronic diseases, has been done on people who are obese, with a BMI of 30 or more. When the merely overweight folks are separated out, the health risks drop and sometimes even disappear. Being overweight may not be associated with ANY risk of heart disease. Although obese folks have a greater risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, those who are simply overweight have, surprisingly, no greater risk than normal-weight people. This was found from Britain’s Million Women Study. ---- And another one: Scientists from the Mayo Clinic were questioning the accuracy and usefulness of the BMI. Reviewing data from 40 studies involving 250,000 people with heart disease, they found that while severely obese patients had a higher risk of death, overweight people had fewer heart problems than those with a normal BMI. Because muscle weighs more than fat, many physically fit people are mistakenly classified as "overweight", while they are actually less likely to die young than a "normal" weight individual whose excess weight is mostly fat. Good for you. :) Love your post. I now workout pretty much every single day and love it. I try to eat as healthy as I can. I feel very good physically, far better than others I know who are at their desirable weight and barely exercise much at all. I'm at a point where I seldom weigh myself and am no longer going to allow a number to dictate my happiness and level of contentment. :)
  5. Gina, pretty much every single thing you mentioned is what I am experiencing and how I feel. I've come to just accept my weight and try to be healthy. I don't think I look obese. I know that I look overweight and plump. I'm curvy and could stand to lose 25 or so pounds. But I have more pressing needs at this point in my life. Weight is not my number one priority by any means. I am trying to exercise and eat healthier. The latter is challenging. One of my main reasons for exercise these days is to keep my sanity and reduce stress, not to lose weight. I can't seem to eat tiny portions these days. Again, I have bigger fish to fry at this point in my life. Yep. Me too. Me too. Me and starvation, not a pretty sight and not fun to be around. :glare: I'm shorter than you and weigh more than you ... :tongue_smilie: :lol: Yep, for me, it's my tummy. I'm storing my food supply there. :D Me too.

  7. :iagree: Lips are a sensual part of the body. Just sayin'. ;) So for that reason and others, I'm out. I can't imagine kissing on the mouth other than in a dating or marriage situation.

  9. Exhale Core Fusion: Pilates Plus I like it a lot. I'm often surprised at how challenging some of the parts are, particularly anything to do with balance/the Tree Sequence. Some might find the instructor annoying. I don't. DVDs are so subjective. I highly recommend watching some video clips first. You could probably find more clips by doing a Google search also.
  10. These both looks really good, Stacia. Thank you so much. :grouphug: I read the other Colum McCann book last year or so. It wasn't my favorite. This one looks more interesting, I think. Thank you also. I have tried so hard to read Dickens several times in the past few years. Funnily enough, I was able to focus on a few and enjoy them when the dc were babies and toddlers. Now, I have a very difficult time focusing on his stuff. I definitely plan on reading most/all of his books in the years to come. Now doesn't seem to be the time. :tongue_smilie: Thank you for this.   11. Yes. :iagree: Yes, I had a friend of a friend who worked with offenders in So. Cal and she told me that it covers both genders and all age groups - even women in their 60s and up - as well as all cultures and backgrounds. She'd had clients who were the total grandmother-type. :glare: :iagree:

  13. Stacia, I would love something like Middlesex. Loved that book so much. :) Last year seemed to be a better reading year overall. Bel Canto was so nice also. I wish Isabel Allende and Khaled Hosseini would hurry up and write something new. There are many others I enjoy. I just want some fabulous books that I can get totally lost in.   14. I'm reading so very slowly these days and just not enjoying it one single iota. I think I should give up on this book and move on. The chapters are horribly long. I really dislike long chapters. I can't see how this book could possibly have any semblance of a nice ending. It just gets more and more depressing. I haven't read a book that I really and truly love in quite a while. :confused: Sorry to sound so negative ... :leaving:
