  1. Not much progress on my reading this week. I've recently started "Sense and Sensibility". "Pride and Prejudice" is one of my all-time favorites and I'm really trying hard to like "Sense and Sensibility". About ten years ago, when my children were very small, I went through a phase of reading a whole bunch of classics and really enjoyed them. More recently, with my children being in their teens, one would think that I'd have an easier time with the classics since I have fewer distractions. Not so. I now have such a difficult time focusing and getting into all that old English dialect. A funny thing happened to me the other evening. I was burned out from all the endless conversations with others (I am becoming more and more of an introvert and very reclusive). I get into bed to read and noticed that Jane Austen really loves dialogue - lots and lots of dialogue - at least in this book anyway - not exactly what I wanted :banghead: :smilielol5:. This is how I felt at that moment. This sounds really interesting. Added it to my wish list.
  2. These look lovely. Thank you! :)
  3. Thank you, I was just about to ask. I am crazy about the ones you posted. Those are just what my daughter and I have been looking for. I just looked at it further and unfortunately it won't fit my Kindle Keyboard :(. I wish so much that I could find something nice and classy.
  4. Whenever a recipe says that it'll take 30 minutes, I laugh and say, "Yeah right." It always takes me at least twice as long as what they say, maybe because I wash the dishes while I'm working, I don't know. These days, I think I'm just slow at cooking and unproductive with regard to most things. It's very frustrating.
  5. New thread. Please post your workouts here. Everyone welcome. :)
  6. Different moves - magazine and Pinterest-type stuff. Thanks. Thank you re: the push-ups feedback. After being sick, I start back slowly. It really depends on how many days I've missed. I don't believe in overexerting myself during those times.
  7. Yes, she contributed so much. I read and re-read so many of her books when we started homeschooling more than ten years ago.
  8. Thank you. My cover is just plain black and I really don't like it much. The elastic part is a bit slack and I find that irritating. I wish I could find a lovely cover. I wish that company would make covers also and not just skins. To me, a cover/case is essential - to protect it if you drop it or whatever. The skin is just gorgeous and enjoyable to look at. And the chances of finding a cover for the PW is better than for the regular Kindle, which, is really not saying much. My daughter loves her PW, although she still much prefers regular books that she can smell and touch. Me too. Yes. Great comparison. Lovely! Going to look into these. One of my favorite books of all time. I read it about six years ago. We saw the movie last night. It was fabulous, but. I recommend that you wait a while before watching it because of the usual slight inconsistencies. Yes, and tell yourself that you deserve it! :)
  9. :lurk5: Sorry that I have nothing to offer, but I am eager to hear what others have to say. Our daughter is not feeling particularly fulfilled by American School.
  10. Rebounding. Does Ballet Body have lots of push-ups. I really dislike push-ups. Planks, I have no problem with, but push-ups are just not my thing.
  11. Our dd is the book-type and we're looking for any good books with regards to the pros and cons of community/junior college first & then finishing up in university. For various reasons, I'm a big fan of that approach, even though that's not the path that I myself took. I took some community college classes. I think that for our children, that approach would have some benefits, yet I do realize that in the end, it's a decision that she'll have to make. Basically, any recommendations for good books on colleges, tips, the application process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)
  12. Yes, I've heard that whatever we use on the face are great to use on the hands also. Avoid sun exposure. Our hands get as much exposure to the elements as our faces, but do we slather them with SPF 30 daily? Not many of us do. Here are some simple, fast things to get your hands looking better: Apply sunscreen to them every morning and reapply it throughout the day. Wear rubber gloves every time you do the dishes. Moisturize your hands every time they come in contact with water. Rub on cuticle oil every morning and night. At least once a month, or preferably more often, cover your hands in thick nourishing cream, and slip them into soft cotton gloves for the night. In the morning the cream will have been absorbed leaving hands smoother and softer. It is also helpful to keep a regular supply of hand cream on the bedside table to remind you to apply it before you sleep. Treat rough skin with a homemade olive oil and sugar scrub. Mix together 1/4 teaspoon each sugar and olive oil and massage into the backs of hands once a week.
  13. Yep, tell me about it. I have this one. I just love his art. It's annoying that I can't see the back, because of the Kindle cover. I contacted the company and asked them to make Kindle covers. I wish they would. They're just absolute class and gorgeousness. Dd has this one on her Paperwhite. If I had a phone or a laptop, I'd get more stuff from them.
  14. Denise Austin: Hit the Spot 10 Five-Minute Target Toners Yes, I have the same issue with my arms. My arms and my core are always my biggest problem areas. Does the upper body workout have lots and lots of push-ups. I really cannot stand push-ups. Planks are fine. Push-ups are so hard for me. Start a new one. :) You're making it hard for me to make a decision!
  15. Speechless. Oh my!  I had no idea that Mary is Martin Freeman's wife. Thanks for sharing that. I knew about Benedict's parents. This is Martin Freeman's reaction upon hearing "Downton Abbey" won best series over his show "Sherlock" at the National Television Awards. I love how Amanda's just cracking up at him. They must have a lot of fun together.
  16. When it comes to Kindle skins and I-phone covers, this company has gorgeous stuff. Just thought I'd share that. My only problem is that it's hard to see and fully appreciate the back part (the artwork), since my Kindle's in a case. I wish I could find a more attractive case for my Kindle. My daughter has a gorgeous one on her Paperwhite, but mine is just basic and the covers are just boring. Jane, yes, I think you're right about creating something for the sheer joy of it versus the pressure of something like Etsy. Thank you so much for offering to send me one. I'd love that. I'll PM you my address. Yes, I'm crazy about Richard Scarry also. :) Me too. At this point, any soft serve sounds good. :)
  17. Leslie's Power Mile I keep hearing about this one. Thanks. Even though I really do not need a new workout DVD, this one is said to be fabulous for the arms, especially for those, like me, who have a hard time getting results there. I'll likely order it from totalfitnessdvds - a bit cheaper, and free shipping (I think, or very cheap) and their coupon "10off" - I love that company. You inspire me. :)
  18. :grouphug: Those sort of things can be such a giant pain. :grouphug:
  19. Rosie, I've been wondering the same thing. I really liked Joseph Anton: A Memoir and am wondering what, if any, of his books, I might be interested in. Thanks, Pam. :) My thoughts exactly. He's made some very dumb choices. Intelligence and common sense are often two completely different things. Reminds me a bit of the Hollande/France scandal, there's some elements of karma/what goes around, comes around involved in all that also. The whole thing is a disaster and giant mess.
  20. Jane, I would love to see pictures of your notebooks. Do you sell them? I love, love, love a good soft serve! Alas, none to be found here. It's one of the first things we get whenever we travel. How can a country not have soft serve, a library, or any good bookstores? Oh, I forgot, no magazines either. Sorry, had to vent :001_rolleyes:. That soft serve looks really good at the moment. :) Me too. :)
