  1. Is it not good enough to be used exclusively? For those of you who do only use Singapore have you seen good results? My son has always used Abeka, but hates it, too many of the same type of problem. I just ordered Singapore, but I am wondering if I should continue with the dreaded Abeka math also, I sure hope not! Please help me understand.

Singapore is a great program if..

    • you are not afraid to teach math

    • your child can grasp some of the more logic level thinking that Singapore uses

    • you are willing to make sure that concepts are truely understood

If these things are a problem, then Singapore may work better as a supplement. Sometimes using it at a lower level than your regular math program works. My dd hit a wall with singapore, but a year later could understand those concepts.

I completely understand your ds problem with ABEKA. We had the same thing happen here. We switched to MUS to reveiw concepts and will be adding in Singapore as soon as we have mastered the basics.

I would keep Abeka handy for help with new concepts if it is needed. Although my dc run when I pull out that yellow book

  2. Although I am not a TOG veteran (this is our first year using Y3 Classic), I have been hsing for 8 years. I am a firm believer doing what works best for you.

I have to say that after using the Classic, we will be skipping Y4 and going to Y1 and doing the redesign. With 5 dc, I need that little bit extra that the redesign offers.

    HTH,

  3. There is so much going on right now it is hard to put it all down.

While all 5 dc were down with the chicken pox, we found out that my brother-in law (dh's sister's husband) has colin cancer that has spread to his liver. He has 2 ds and is in his mid 50's. He is back in the hospital for dehydration and will begin chemo this week.

Two weeks ago my mil was diagnosed with cancer in her mouth (no she never smoked). She has just come out of an 8 hr surgery to remove teeth, bone and lymph nodes. So far so good. She is in her 70's and very healthy (aside from the cancer).

Dh is tired, I am tired. We have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to pray about. It has been a busy month.

    Thanks for your prayers.

    Blessings,

    Monique
