  1. I have been slowly working on decluttering. You guys are making me feel like I am doing "NOTHING" (said in a sing song voice) ;)

I am going to try harder today to get rid of some junk. My house has to much stuff in it.

Tracy, wanna come help me? :D I seriously keep saying I am going to do what you are doing but just haven't done it. I bet it is freeing :001_smile: Way to go :hurray:

  2. Dh did what FIL said and they turned out good. He said to put them on the grill over a low medium heat and every little bit spray them with apple juice. (put apple juice in a spray bottle). Then at the very end if you want to smear on some bbq sauce (used his recipe for bbq sauce).

  3. September for us. Usually right after Labor Day. (Thinking after Christmas this year would be good. )

Public schools around here start the 1st part of August so my kiddos think it is great that they get "extra" time out. Of course we don't always take a fall break, spring break and the other days the ps takes but that is ok by them.

I had seriously thought about starting up early this year or doing some school in the summer but with everyone playing baseball and it is still going on, we just haven't had a break. at. all. Don't get me wrong, they love it and I encourage it if they love it but mama needs a break (not to mention trying to unearth the messy house now too...that was on my summer to do list )

  4. His elevator don't go all the way to the top

He's as mad as an old wet hen

    Finer than frog's hair

    Fish or cut bait

    Don't be ugly

Dumber than a box of rocks

Like 2 peas in a pod

Not the brightest crayon in the box

Don't count your chickens before they hatch

You're barking up the wrong tree

    Dumb as a fence post

    Well shut my mouth

Like a bump on a log

He/she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down (or change ugly to stupid)

I'm gonna beat you with a wet noodle

You're getting to big for your britches

  5. about 2 cups to a gallon

I had been making it by the 1/2 gallon then went to a family function. Once there I was asked if I could make the tea. A 1/2 gallon of unsweet and a gallon of sweet.

Sure no problem. Made unsweet, fine. Got to talking while I added the sugar to the sweet. Forgot I was making a gallon. Added 1 cup sugar. My family likes it 2 cups per gallon.

No one said anything except ds.

He took a drink and said "mama I wanted the sweet tea".

    me- that is sweet tea

    ds- no it isn't

me after taking a drink -- :blushing: "hey everybody, I'm sorry I messed up the tea"

  6. The sock thing can work for boys too. Ds was outgrowing boy socks but men's socks were to big. I found some plain white ankle socks in the women's dept. and they were just the right size. (just didn't let ds see package)

Thank you for the Fake Shout recipe. Having baseball players I have really gone though the store bought version (and sometimes still have to wash 2 or 3 times with it to get the red dirt out). Can't wait to try this.

Use cloth napkins and use washclothes or towels to clean messes

Take our water bottles (reusable) with us when we leave the house. Most of the time we take the small cooler to keep them in while we are in the stores to keep them cold.

Empty ice maker into bags often. Don't empty completely, just 1/2 of it at a time. Keep these bags in the freezer to use in our coolers.

Take a cooker with extra drinks (usually big jugs of water or tea to refill our cups or water bottles we brought with us) and some snacks if we are going to be away from home for any length of time.

Fill various containers with water and freeze. That way I have plenty of ice on hand. Yogurt containers, sour cream and butter containers are good ones to use. Easy to stack in freezer. Also easy to dump and put in bags if you need to "build up" a supply of ice. Those bigger blocks of ice keep a long time in the cooler and are fairly easy to bust up if they don't fit in the cooler. This also works good for filling a freezer if you don't have much in there.

Use white vinegar instead of Roundup in the cracks in the sidewalk. Use on a hot day with no rain in the forecast. A couple days later the grass will be dead. Stays gone for a while too.

    Eat leftovers

    Got to yard sales

  7. I usually have at least 1 a year, sometimes 2. Either in the spring or late summer or both.

I have never made a whole lot. A really good sale would bring $100 -$150. My friend would have one and make $300 easy. :001_huh: Didn't know if her junk was better than my junk or what.

I have noticed a decline in sales the last couple years. I didn't know if it was the weekend I picked or just people in general not spending money. I know I have cut back on my spending.

I haven't had a yard sale yet this year. I have piles of stuff waiting but we have just been so busy this spring/summer. I am thinking of just forgetting the yard sale this year and taking everything to a local helping hand ministry.

I sell most of my stuff for super cheap. My main goal for a yard sale is to get rid of stuff. Any money I make goes toward school books.

  8. I remember taking swimming lessons at least 2 years. It was at the city pool. The 1st year it took the whole 2 weeks for me just to put my face in the water.

The next year I remember standing on the diving board. We were suppose to jump in. An instructor was in the pool in case we had trouble. I was standing on the edge of the board just looking down. I was sooo scared. Another instructor quickly stepped up behind me, picked me up and dropped me in the pool. That did NOT make me happy.

I learned how to swim but wouldn't say I swam like a fish or anything.

I feel bad that my kids haven't learned to swim yet (oldest is 12). We just don't really have access to a pool. The city pool closed down so no lessons there. I am a large person and I am not comfortable in shorts much less a swim suit and swimming hasn't been something we do.

  9. I just realised that alot of the movies we watch are PG. But here is a few favorites

    G Movies

    Apple Dumpling Gang

    Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again

Yours, Mine and Ours (old one)

Davy Crockett (King of Wild Frontier and River Pirates)

    Follow Me Boys

"Buddies" movies (Space Buddies, Snow Buddies, Santa Buddies)

    Cars

    Ratatouille

    Recipe for Disaster

    PG Movies

    Night at the Museum (1&2)

    National Treasure (1&2)

    Everyone's Hero

    Sandlot (some language)

    Secondhand Lion

    Hoot

    Harry and the Hendersons

Bigfoot (this version -- it was funny)

That is all I can think of right off. We love movies around here. :lurk5:

  10. Your dd won't find this amusing but my kiddos did.

When this cat decided our porch was it's new home. I tried to run it off with a spray bottle. Didn't work, he just came right back.

So dh being who he is went and got out a couple fire crackers. Calmly walked out the front door. The cat was contently sitting in dh's chair. Dh lit the fire cracker and tossed it.

    BANG.

Cat took off like a rocket.

A little later cat was back. Dh did the same thing. Cat took off and hasn't been back.

Yes my kiddos and the neighbor thought this was :lol::lol:
