  1. :scared: :svengo: I am the first one to support a mom who needs help with their mentally ill child, but I still am having a hard time with the fact that she ever allowed her unstable son to touch a gun. And to buy him an assault rifle?! I just don't understand at all.

It is being said that CT has the strictest gun control laws in the nation. It did no good.

Strict as compared to.??.....not other countries with firm controls, that's for sure.

  2. Migraines are miserable

I agree with the caffeine recommendations. I usually take a HEFTY dose of Excedrin. Next, turn off your computer and close your eyes. Try to get somewhere dark. Cover your eyes with a mask if you can. Try to block out as much sound as possible, too. And then...sleep, if you can. If you have a sleep aid, even if it's over the counter, take it.

    Feel better!

Yes-Excedrin is amazing and the only thing that saves me. Better than Vicodin!

  3. I am not familiar with it either. What is OM?

Oak Meadow. I am looking for something new that is all encompassing and would work with different styles. I have some levels of TOG but it leaves out science. I keep going back to Epi-Kardia since it is all inclusive and 1/2 price right now....but it would still be 3 different things to teach. Grrrrrrrrrr.....

  4. Title says it all. I bought many MANY levels of OM and now regret it. It isn't to my older DD's tastes and too simple for younger DD. Now I debate selling it all and going with something that I can use multilevel. I also have PR and they aren't fans of that. What would you sub in for PR and base curriculum for children who:

Older DD (12) struggles with liking to read and is a not so great speller naturally - comfy with textbooks

Younger DD(8) above average reader and natural speller who loves rabbit trails and leading her own way

DS (6) just starting to get the hang of reading-not great with writing-loves to be read to as he is auditory-doing well with PR -natural math ability

Note* the girls are in IEW classes

  5. Temporary hard times and perpetuating a cycle are two different things. Having more and more kids with no reasonable solution to monetary strife in the future makes no sense. Living meagerly and simply without a lot of extras is not the same as making a habit of living off other people's tax dollars. People are crying about having to fund healthcare for those without but I fail to see how it is different from government assistance paying for a newborn's healthcare and formula.

  6. I know the feeling. I feel like I am on the endless search for the perfect self-help book. I think we need to take what we got and move on. I gave up carbs for 30 days. ALL carbs. It sucked for the first 6 days and then I found it was easy. Now I find it simple to indulge here and there but the difference is I feel the change and see how negatively they effected me. 15 pounds fell off. That being said I have at least 20 more to get where I would like to be. Right now I see not gaining through the holidays as victory and I will address it in January again. I bought curriculum and keep tweaking. STUPID Why can't I just trust in it and follow it? My oldest is a source of contention lately too. He is very unmotivated and graduates in June. I'm tired of worrying about everyone and everything. :grouphug:

  7. Our favorite place to eat at HS is Play and Dine but I am not sure you have a kid who would like Agent Oso, Jake, Little Einsteins, or Handy Manny. You can eat at a character meal in a restaurant after you leave so I wouldn't stress that. I would get in park time. If you can get an early entry for AK to eat at Tusker House I would grab that.

  8. J Jill sells tops that are longer in length and sit mid hip instead of just at the waist. They also sell a variety of tunics. Another trick I found is to order "tall" lengths. Old Navy has a sweater http://www1.assets-gap.com/webcontent/0005/550/337/cn5550337.jpg that if you order a tall it is long enough to be a tunic. There are also a few others on the page that are actually tunics. I love Old Navy because I feel like I can afford to get tired of their stuff after a year or two.

  9. Well my 12 year old DD babysits for sometimes 2-3 hours at a time for me with the younger siblings. SHE is way more responsible than my 17 yr old DS! I called CPS on my nutty neighbor one year because she was leaving her 6th grader and 4th grader home all day during the summer and one day I looked out and they were lighting paper on fire in the front yard and the DS was swinging an ax around!!! What happened? Nothing.

  10. Well I guess that explains 22 years! We hit it on all 5 points. I think findng a mate in college was the right start for us because it pulled similar intellects together. Then on top of that we met at a common job we both had while in college. Now that isn't to say that things don't change because while I have now found staying at home to be a priority he is a very driven businessman. That wouldn't be easy if I worked as well. I dare say that we wouldn't be together if we both worked because the similar stress levels of us both being over achievers would have destroyed us.

  11. The Chanel I use is like a beefed up BB cream. It is the Firming and Smoothing Liquid Makeup. It is a bit thicker but works so well. No need for primer and it leaves a very slight sheen-not oily and not matte. I would suggest Nordstrom too. Lancome, Clarins, Bobbi Brown....not Smashbox or Mac. They tend to have young girls with heavy makeup working them. I love Makeup Forever eyeliners(aqua eyes) because it goes on smoother than other liners. Maybelline Stiletto is my favorite mascara but with a decent primer anything will work better on lashes.

  12. The one thing that stops me from getting a program like The Power of Moms is that I will have to stop what I am doing and learn it....therefor adding to the pile of stuff I am already staring at! I do feel like I am under a mental pile of junk that keeps me paralyzed. I have so much to do that I can't start some days! I would love a baby steps thread to keep me moving SLOWLY over the course of 2013 to better organize. I have my oldest HS'd child approaching high school soon and it is scaring the daylights out of me!
