I knew there were at least 5. 6 makes so much more sense.

Well, ain't that the Booya of the year... 🤭
No, because she hasn't Booya(h)ed yet.
I've seen h, I've seen no h, and I've seen both. But none of the above?! It's been HOURS!

ASD Son is just starting Saxon 65.
DS 17 & DD 13 are in the first half of Saxon 87.
Little Man is K level so I’m not looking for him. 🙂
Topic wise, they just finished MP nature series (except Insects) and said it was interesting. They like pretty much anything science. I’ve dealt with this mismatch all their education. It’s just annoying me more now that we really do have to do “real” science.
I went to The Homeschool Store and sold off almost all our books. I took DS 17 as I needed his muscles to lift the flowing crate and to get his review of possible books for fall. I think we almost have a plan. Haha! Riight….
It rained like mad while we there so my car got a free wash!
Watching The Batman tonight with the older boys. I love RedBox.
Unrelated, but I cannot remember how old ASD son is and I'm looking... You only have 4 kiddos listed here? Am I missing one? Why did I think you have 5?

I just had to redirect Oldest's attention back to his science test. His nose is stuck in another Holling C. Holling book! I debated on whether to correct him or not, but it's a shortish simple test and it's been an hour!

As for science/math: we haven't gotten to science that really requires a lot of math yet. If we did, Oldest would either suddenly be motivated to learn math or figure out he doesn't like science as much as he thinks he does.

And Slache will post lots of pictures from her Japan trip.
Little Man will NOT settle down, and we are out of melatonin. ARGG!!
Homemade mc-n-cheese and banana birthday cake was a hit. DS 17 liked his gifts: Uncharted blu-ray and Friday's Family Date.
Son 23 is having a tough day. He was going to eat with a group, but unbeknownst to him the menu was tacos. He can't smell Mexican spice without tossing his cookies so he asked to be brought home which made him embarrassed. I told him better embarrassed by leaving than by throwing up. Then he got a bad grade on a homework assignment that he has no idea what he did wrong and was given zero guidence on it. I told him look on Khan Academy. While he was telling me about all this on my phone, Little Man came over to talk and prayed with Son 23 when he said what a bad day he was having. The faith of little children is so sweet.
EdPo: Science should be about learning about God's world, fun, hands-on, and involove lots of (safe) explosion/reactions according to my kids. The problem I am running into is their math is below their interest/comprehension at this point. SIGH! I'll figure it out.
That's all I got now.
I wanna know what you come up with for science!

I think I just found a fun and quirky way to memorize the states and capitals (and where they are located on a map). Have you seen this, Slachie? I know you're planning to use 50 States and Uncle Sam together so I thought of you. I am cracking up reading some of them. I'll never think of gum the same way again.

All the King Arthur books we read were for children and did not mention any of the types of things you mentioned in your later post. Other than Merlin having magic and it being fantasy, of course. We read things like "The Sword in the Stone". The tale of Sir Gawain we read was also clean and was written for children. It was "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" by Michael Morpugo.
But I have no problem with magical references that are clearly fantasy.
Same here. I was prereading a bit from the retelling by Roger Lancelyn Green because it is part of the MP 6th grade literature package that I was considering for Oldest next year.

I dont recall all bits. Arthur's father Uther has magic costume from Merlin to look like Igraine's husband, so goes to her and sleeps with her in disguise. So unbeknownst to her. This conceives Arthur. Ingraine's husband is shocked to death so Uther marries Igraine.
Also, there is some weirdness with Sir Gawain being seduced by someone's wife trying but really it being the husband I think. He wasn't supposed to touch the wife but ended up kissing her I think. I don't remember. But yeah, some definitely strong adultery and seduction allusions. I read Sir Gawain aloud and substantially edited it.
Also:
Tristam & Iseult - adultery
Lancelot & Guinevere - adultery
King Arthur and his half sister - incest that conceives a child.
I don't see the moral, literary, or educational value to reading this book when there are so many more suitable and less dysfunctional options for the time period.

***Monday morning EdPo***
King Arthur is not happening here. It only took reading the first two chapters and discussing them with DH to make the decision.

I think I summoned her back here while looking into older (less popular today) math and phonics programs. 🤣

Hi Paige!
This is a very new medication for me, so I'm going to talk to my doctor at my appointment next month to see if we can change it to something else.
I wasn't sure until today that the medication was causing my anxiety -- last week was a busy week with my son getting married!
But, the anxiety only seems to pop up on days that I use the rescue inhaler, so there seems to be a trend. Hopefully we'll be able to use something else, because this is not going to work long term.
Good to see you! Hope you and your family are doing well. 🙂
Not sure I'd wait that long depending on how frequently you use/need it. You can always call the Dr office during business hours and ask to have a nurse call you back to discuss it. At least that way the the Dr can decide whether to change something now or wait until your scheduled appointment.

I have several of them and have used them to reinforce concepts/remediate but I don't think they have enough practice to serve as a primary curriculum, at least for my kids.
Even with the downloadable worksheets that come with the books?

...as a curriculum or supplement. Good or bad? Looks like they cover all the way through highschool Algebra and Geometry. I wonder how they compare to more traditional textbooks like Foersters and Jacobs.

Maybe Winston Grammar? We didn't love it, but many people do, and it doesn't require any real writing.
The most successful grammar at our house was Easy Grammar.
Easy grammar looks great. I thought R&S was supposed to be advanced, so I am very surprised to see things in the grade 5 sample that are not covered in R&S grade 5.

EdPo:
I'm toying with an idea. Oldest hates math, as we all know, but he is interested in science and has asked if there will be more engineering type stuff in his science book for next year. I flipped through and don't see much of what he's seeking. The way he described it makes me think he's looking for more physics. He definitely doesn't want any more biology stuff for a while! So, I'm considering looking for science that forces him to use his math skills so that maybe he'll start to see the value in learning it. And maybe conveniently have Learn Math Fast on a bookshelf nearby since he always makes it his mission to know when any new books appear on our bookshelves.
