So...to make things more complicated or just me being crazy....I decided we are starting off the year with the BYL Prehistory Unit Study, and integrate or follow up with The Good and the Beautiful Paleontology. Cause dang it, I want something fun and interesting and new to start the year!

I've got to see how much time they will take and if/how we will do our already planned social studies alongside this or wait.

But I've ordered some fun stuff to do with this - dinosaurs to pain, fossils to dig out, some dinosaur throw pillows and wall decals, and decorations for first day of school.

So, um...yeah...I got side tracked, lol. But, all the kids seem interested in the topic, so calling it a win?

Great idea! Dinosaurs are fun. We have a few dinosaur books that I'm pretty sure Oldest has memorized from rereading so many times. I think there's a resource out there to learn how to draw different dinosaurs, too. Hmm, this may be something I want to pull together for future use, so please make sure to let us know what all you end up finding/doing/enjoying.

I don't have a video, but I can answer the question without one.  I've been using the Proclick p50 for years.  Yes, you can bind the tops.  It's a two step process.  First you put the paper into the proclick and make the holes.  Then you put the plastic binding on manually.  It's a lot like a three hole punch and you can position the paper for punching any way you want.  You'd have to cut down the plastic binding things, but that isn't hard.  I'm sure I've done it before.

I assumed this would be the case but I guess I was hoping to more specifically find out if by doing this, will I end up with a half punch on one end? There are compatible 3:1 spines for 8.5inch length at mybinding.com

  3. I'm thinking of buying the P50 but want to know: Can this bind the top rather than the side? I want to basically remove the binding from some of our curriculum that is always in workbook format and then use the proclick to bind the tops instead. If you're willing, please show me or link me to a tutorial or video that shows me how.

I left my coffee somewhere.  Better go find it.

I used to do the same thing. The cure was Youngest. If coffee goes missing, find Youngest because he likely drank most of it and is wearing the rest while still licking his fingers. Caffeinated 2 year old means no nap that day.

Every few months I come across a totally freaky bug which I have never seen before, cannot find on the Google, and have no idea if it's venomous. Then, I never see the bug again and wonder if I've lost my mind. I've been through this with like 8 bugs.

    I still love Texas.

One more reason to not visit Texas.

  6. I'm a bit late to this and absolutely plan to use Our 50 States in the future for my littles who are closer in age, but another option you might consider is America the Beautiful for both your 4th and 7th graders with the audio CD option. They could listen together and then use the workbook/lesson review book independently. I used it for Oldest when he was in 4th with just the workbook and mapbook.

  7. I don't require a specific amount of time reading. My thought is that Oldest already reads quite a bit in order to accomplish most of his subjects each school day and reads well above his age/grade level according to all his standardized test scores. He's also my bookworm kid. If I attempted the 'books at bedtime' thing, Oldest would be regularly sleep deprived and stay up all night long reading. 😂

That said, I'll reassess for each child based on our goals when they reach school age.

I'm so impressed that you included the Chestry Oak. Have you read it?

Not yet. I have it along with the rest of the lit books for the second half of Notgrass From Adam to Us to be read this upcoming school year (if Oldest doesn't find them first). I like the sections I've skimmed so far better than The Good Master and The Singing Tree. I think it's a better fit for Oldest and I'm looking forward to reading it with him.

I can relate. Kids this fall will be 13, 11, 8 and 2. I can't keep up with my friends with older kids because I have the baby. I can't go on long hikes, etc, and I have to deal with naptime in the schedule. I know a few people with a similar spread of ages. I haven't even tried to interact with new moms of toddlers, and is it horrible that I have no desire to?

    11, 3, & 2. It's a balancing act, for real.

Talking about these babies reminds me you're talking about your children, and mine is a grandchild. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I feel like I have 3 grandchildren. I'm too young for this...

I'm too old for this. Having more children later in life makes it hard to relate to other parents because I'm old enough to be their mother.

I've been listening to bard music on youtube. I have not had any ale.

Baby Dancer turned two a few weeks ago. I want to say she's a month older than mine who turned two today.

    Siggy:

Family: KJV, Geography, Apologia, Artistic Pursuits
DS6th: Saxon, Cover Story, Greek, Latin, Spanish, Japanese, Piano, Violin
DD4th: Beast Academy+XtraMath, IEW SSS, Greek, Spanish, Japanese, Piano, Violin
DS1st: Ray's, Reading Lessons Through Literature, Spanish, Japanese
DS2yo: Eating schoolbooks and throwing pencils

Ok. Youngest is older than yours, then. If I remember correctly, age order is Baby Dancer, Youngest, then your youngest. I'm trying not to use names because it appears you aren't using them anymore.

    🎉Happy Nirthday, littlest Slachlet!🎉

Love the siggy, btw. Youngest prefers to test the bouyancy of school books in the bathtub and save his appetite for cookies.

  12. EdPo update:

I ordered the full art kit with the DVDs and the art supplies rather than piecing it out. We'll see how it goes.

I also decided to buy Rythm of Handwriting Cursive edition for Oldest. Looks similar enough to the dnealian I'm familiar with. I figured since I've already taught him how to form the letters, this will be a good review and then move on to letter connectors and fluency. They have a couple of rules that aren't what I remember, but they make perfect sense so I'm gonna just roll with it.

Baby is 2. Siggy updated including curriculum we're not using for another month. I'm exhausted and my back hurts.

I still can't see siggys. Youngest is also 2, but I cannot remember if he's older or younger than yours. Same with Baby Dancer. I think they were all pretty close together.

I think I have some of that brand. Those are in the tall squeeze bottles? I don't think I bought at Walmart though, because I don't shop there much and only for food items. So, I don't think it's Walmart's brand. I have only used for things like craft projects and it didn't seem any different than any other acrylic paint. I painted a plastic playhouse probably 8 yrs ago, and painted the doorknob antique gold with acrylic paint, and I can't believe how well it held up, but I don't know what brand that was. I'm currently repainting the playhouse.  Looks like no rain, so I should get on that today and get finished.

    What are you painting?

It's to go along with a beginners learn to paint DVD set (Barry Stebbings) for my Oldest. I don't need all the additional watercolor stuff that we'd get if I buy the art kit that comes with the full package.

My artsy friends recommend name-brand paints, so unless the Walmart acrylic paints are a name brand, then...no.

I believe the name brand is Apple Barrel. I just don't know enough about art supply brand names to know which are good/bad.

I've never used them but the reviews look good.

Thanks. I saw that. I was hoping someone here had actually used them though.
