  1. Okay, I need to know what this is. And what's typical about it? Our hotel is not on a commuter line...I have to drop off dh in the morning, and pick him up (Boston College). So I pretty much can drive and see things, or stay at the pool in the hotel. The Public Gardens are first on my list. Also, the baby is always in a Moby Wrap, so the 3 year old is my biggest worry. I have an umbrella-ish (it's a bit bigger) stroller I can take with me. Just :scared: And :bored: And hopefully I will survive! It's a great idea to do the things outside of Boston...but I have a time window. I have to drop off/pick up dh, so I don't want to go too far and get stuck in traffic somewhere...I'll have to see how far a drive it is to those things. SO, if I try to navigate around without getting on the highways, would that be any better?
  2. I am not used to city driving. At all. Does that make me a bad candidate for Boston driving?
  3. Top things to see? How easy is it to see Boston with 4 kids with a single adult? Dh will be available to sight-see only one day out of five. We are driving. Is the city traffic/parking too crazy for me to attempt going around without another adult? I'm not a brave city gal. I much prefer the country! I'm especially concerned that I would lose ds!
  4. How would you go about evaluating a new doctor/office? Both for yourself and children? Assume you don't know anyone to obtain a reccomendation from, and have an insurance approved list of hundreds of doctors. I feel like I'm playing pin the tail on the donkey. I really want to get the right place on the first try.
  5. Having just moved to Northern Virginia, I have contempt for two of the landlords in this area. The first house we signed a lease for wanted extra money for pets after the signing. It went from an agreed upon $500 deposit to a $1000 fee. We declined! The second house we were supposed to move in last week, but upon walk-through we found mold in multiple rooms. Landlord was going to "scrape it off and paint it, no problem". Well, that would have been a problem for us! (These were both with realtors.) Third time is a charm. A clean, by-owner home that has a nice landlord and we have moved in. OP, I sincerely hope it doesn't take three tries for you! It's been very, very stressful!
  6. Just gets worse and worse. We rented a home via FaceTime. Realtor assured us it wasn't smelly. We get here to take possession, and there is visible mold on walls and vents. No way can we live in that. So, back to searching. Who knows how long that will takes Our household will go in storage. Who knows what it will look like when we get it. If you pray, please pray for us.
  7. Update: Dh respectfully and kindly listed the problems to the manager this morning. He did not demand a refund. (Adding that the third room had a bathroom light that had a leak.) She returned our room fee minus the pet deposit ($75). So a good outcome after all.
  8. So, a few days ago we had a rotten moving day. Today is a rotten hotel stay. The first "suite" we were given smelled like pet urine (it is a pet friendly place). The second room was hot - oh, yeah, that's right, the a/c doesn't work in that room- we were told when we complained after moving everything! The third room seems fine, but now we are sleeping to the noise of snores from another guest. This is supposed to be a nice place - it's expensive - but the decor looks like it's from the early 90s, and who knows how old the carpet is. The surfaces are clean, but the paint is peeling in spots. The building is historic. It is much too late to leave with kids, dog, cat, and fish in tow. I really want my $250 back. Would you ask a manager for it in the morning? I can't wait until we have a house! (Hopefully with undamaged goods.)
  9. What an awful joke! We've moved 7 or 8 times. Things happen, but this was supposed to be a "good" company. Well, dh just told me that on the walk-through he found all our silverware in the drawer. Ack. They put it in the parts box. They didn't pack any of our furniture with blankets, either - all "paper padding", which is one tiny thin piece of foam with brown paper on either side. Ugh. We even found a blanket and told them to use it for the piano. When I called dh see if they used it, they hadn't, so he had to go in the truck and insist!
  10. Aw, our day wasn't as bad as some of your stories. I'm so sorry. Our move isn't over; we are only at the beginning. We will see what kind of shape our goods are in after our drive across country. I'm apprehensive, to say the least.
  11. We had a pretty rotten moving day today. Anyone have a story about The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day? Share with me!
  12. I wear Skechers Go Walks. With almost everything, including long skirts. I have pairs for when we go out of the house, and pairs for wearing in the house. Or clarks leather flip flops, if it's a short skirt. I like comfortable feet, and these make me comfy.
  13. The baby is not the family member that was treated for scabies/eczema.
  14. Thanks, Artic Mama! Although I wish it something I could treat and rid her of. 🙠I don't think it's contact dermatitis; nothing I've been using for her clothes or bath has changed. I don't think she could have become sensitive quickly to something that we've been using all along. My older girls suffer with asthma and enviromental allergies, and I was hoping baby girl could avoid it. The doc this morning said eczema this young is a high predictor of asthma & allegies. (Ds has avoided both so far.) This is the first time we have dealt with eczema at such a young age, and it seemed to happen overnight.

  17. Okay, so baby girl had a rash pop up this week that looks like eczema - the doctors says it's eczema. It's dry scaly patches of skin all over her back, some on back of arms, the inside of one of her elbows has a pimply heat rash type of thing. My new question: can scabies ever present like eczema? I'll put some pictures in another post.
  18. We've always had pleasant experiences on SW. Granted, I've had little kids for the past 11 years, so I've always been able to board directly after the A group. But the attendants have always managed to find seats together for children and parents on the flights we have been on. I know that's not very helpful. Hopefully the return flight will be easier.
  19. Thanks for the picture! I haven't seen anything like that on the patient, so that makes me feel better. I'll keep looking for it on other family members.
  20. Thanks. No confirmed scabies; the other options include eczema or a reaction to a weed that was pulled. The itchiness and bumps began two days ago. Family member has had eczema and dry skin always. The family member is being treated with scabies meds. I just wanted to know if all should be treated, even if there are no symptoms on the rest. According to doctor, all family doesn't need to be treated at this time. Doctor was leaning towards eczema, but gave the scabies meds in order to head it off, if that is what it is.
  21. Talk to me about this. How is transmitted? How likely is it that you can get it from the seat of a van? Is it terrible to get rid of? If one person in a family has it, how likely is it that other family members will get it?
  22. I'd like to be! I grew up in the saddle and get back there whenever I can - usually once a year when we visit my parents. Eventually I hope to stop moving so often and enjoy riding again. A nicely muscled quarter horse makes me swoon. ðŸ˜
  23. We will be living there for 1-2 years, so I want to make sure to see all we can!
  24. Thank you all!! :thumbup1: This is a great start! :hurray:
  25. We have always lived in places with city water. My and dh's teeth didn't have many cavities; our kids teeth do. Incidentally, grandparents on either side have had lots of dental problems. I think genetics are stronger. Also, I do not think fluoride is very good for your thyroid, and our older kids have hypothyroidism that was inherited through dh's maternal side.
