I am so angry about blogspot.com....

You can also add a parental guidance program to your computer that would block anything you wanted it to. We use safeeyes.com . It's so worth it. -
Who's using Kinetic Books Algebra?

I'm glad to find someone who is using KB. I've got some questions for you later. :) Anyone else? :) -
It looks great & my son is going through the free chapter trial. Any experience with KB would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Found tick on my son. Take him to dr. or not?
gfam replied to Sue G in PA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Well golly. Ya learn something new every day. I did not know that adults were bigger. THanks. :) However a quick search does say that adults are less likely to bite humans & it is the nymphs that cause most of the disease transmission. So it is still hopeful it is a dog tick eh? Nymphs are capable of transmiting the most disease to humans during their appearence in spring and early summer. Most Lyme disease transmisson to humans occurs from nymphs infected the previous season from small rodents such as the the white footed mouse. Larva: Small rodents such as the White-Footed mouse, chipmunks Nymph: Small rodents, dogs, humans Adult: Deer, occasionally horses and humans Thanks for setting me straight! :) I do hope all will be well with your son. I despise tics. Icckk. -

gfam replied to Sue G in PA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The tic's that carry Lyme Disease is only as big as the head of a pin AFTER it is engorged. They are tiny, tiny tiny. Hard to see until they've been on a few days. Also, only 75% or something like that will actually get the bulls eye rash so don't wait for that. My son got Lymes with out the rash..only a fever and then months later, lameness. If it was the tiny tic I would watch for ANY sign of sickness such as fever or rash & if anything shows up insist on being tested. If it was the big tic I'd just watch the skin for sign of infection. BOL. Tic's are icky. -
Looking for info on LIAL or other alternative to LOF.

Thank you Karin & all the rest. And thank you Angie for suggesting KB!! I really like the look of it & am going to have my son try the trial chapter. *fingers crossed* :) -
You have to print the book out yourself? Or do you have the option of having it mailed?

I would recommend writing him. He really wants a person to call when they are stuck on something. He's told me that twice now. He will give you his phone number. I have yet to call him, but the next time Dan is stuck that is exactly what he is going to do and we shall see how it helps. I just don't have time to spend hours trying to figure out a problem. Also, have hope. This is what he says about Chapter 4. "Most of the calls that I receive (I've given you my number below) are for chapter 4 of LOF:BA. These word problems are probably the hardest part of the whole series." Out of the WHOLE series of books he says this chapter is the hardest. So I do have hope. We will continue through the rest of the book & then decide.

Addiction to pornography is very real, even in the young. There is a huge difference between taking care of those emotions in the privacy of your own room & repeatedly seeking out known pornography. It should be taken seriously. I did not read all the replies, but I do know your pain. :( The only difference was it was a son, not daughter. He admitted it was more than hormones & emotions. Once those images are in a persons heart & mind they take a very very very long time to fade. I will always have to live with the guilt of not having the necessary safe guards on my computer. So I do understand. One resource that was helpful was this book. It also has a study guide for girls or boys as well. It does have a large Biblical element so that may or may not suit you. My husband went through the book with my son as a mentor & he said it did help. Those desires to seek out pornography will not just go away over night & may take some long term commitment to help. The other thing that was very helpful was finding a mentor we trusted that had been through this same problem to walk along side my son to keep him accountable with his feelings & struggles. While none of this may be suitable for your daughter or situation it was just our experience. You are wise to seek counsel & take this as a serious issue. There is curiosity/rebellion & there is addiction. I pray it is not the later for your child. Best of luck figuring out what is best for your family.

What could it be when food sends your child into a rage?
gfam replied to rafiki's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This is a good point. The research I have done says the kids with sensitivities to dyes are often the same kids that have issues with disorders on the spectrum. ADD, TS, OCD, Aspergers, etc etc etc. They are very often paired. My son is highly sensitive and is ADHD as well with occasional tourettes like symptoms. We also found epsom salt baths extremely helpful when he has been triggered by something. -
Yes, I have the Home Companion and it does have every answer. The problem I am having is that it does not have every equation to get to the correct answer. It has most of them, but not all. When doing story problems it doesn't really help a ton if all you get is the answer. How did they get there? It takes so much time on my part doing every problem in advance to be ready to help him if he has troubles. :001_smile:

YES!! Feingolds is a great start!! Best money I ever spent. Food dyes and/or anything artificial like "natural flavoring" or preservatives are HUGE triggers for my son. We went through this about 1 1/2 years ago. They thought my 12 yo possibly had tourettes b/c of the tic's & other significant symptoms. He too showed up with no "allergies", but he is highly sensitive to these things. He had two crackers on Saturday that weren't "safe" for him and we knew it. He does not tolerate even the smallest amounts and is even triggered by smells. Check into Feingold or the Failsafe Diet. We've been there. You feel so helpless watching your child fly out of control. :( We had very little help from traditional medical professionals & had to figure this out on our own. BOL
