I also have a nine year old son big into science. :-)
We went over 50 last year and got him a microscope from http://www.mindware.com/p/Microscope-Kit-and-Book/41030
Hijacking here for just a moment - I was just looking at this microscope in the catalogue - how do you like it?

I'm going to take your books away :D

2/3 cup evaporated milk
16 large (or 160 small) marshmallows
1 1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/4 t. salt
2 c. chocolate chips
1 t. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts
Mix first five ingredients in saucepan, stirring constantly. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until melted. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into greased 8x8" pan.

fortunately I didn't put them in the dryer. I know they'll stretch out as I wear them, but :(
Next time I'll be sure to wash them in cold water.
Any suggestions from the hive?

I read that it helps with integrating the grammar lessons with the writing lessons, but we're using WWS for writing (which I love) so we won't be using the writing lessons.

The sample pages of the student text seem pretty self explanatory.

And lots of positive replies too :001_smile:
If a workbook book is listed in "good" condition, is it reasonable to assume that the answers haven't been filled in? I'm specifically interested in VIE.
Thank you!

Here's a link. The prices are amazing - but other than that, I don't know anything about this site.

Would these be okay as a starting point if this series has not been used before? My 8th grader is a . . .reluctant writer.
I think it would be a great starting point for your 8th grader :)

That's helpful. I saw your post, but I guess I didn't read it carefully enough :tongue_smilie:
Is the TM necessary for teaching the lessons?

in softcover from PHP for comparison with the PDF (since I've already printed the 19 weeks, it may make more sense to purchase the PDF)?
-
From what I can tell, VIE has a student text, but no TM. Is this correct?
I'm also wonderign about where to purchase it - at $54 from Loyola Press it's expensive; there are some copies at AbeBooks but I'm not familiar with this site. Even though the books are listed in good condition, it's unclear to me whether the answers are filled in in the student texts.

I have the first 20 weeks or so, and I refer to it often.

because surely she will get us there:tongue_smilie:

Run, don't walk to the links at the bottom of my post :)
Both websites offer incredibly helpful resources. I'm listening to the CDs with my dc now and they're wonderful. There is even a CD just for dads . . .

Duh - just figured out how to do it :o

if the 6th - 8th grade program is a fit for him, you may be able to bring him up to speed in fairly short order.

We have Word and Word Perfect on our computer. Is one better than the other for any reason?

also in WWE 4 this year.
I think your son's narration is right on target :001_smile:

OK...that helps. The Magyk books are younger but do contain lots of ghosts, ghouls, possession (as in spirits taking over a person's body against their will), bogarts, creepy things, witches (both nice and nasty), dragons, dark creatures, graveyards, spells, skulls, were-creatures....
I can't remember specifically any vampires (though there could have been), but all the other things you mention specifically are there.
They don't bother me much because the world the books are set in is CLEARLY fantasy. If you are considering these books and the things listed above are an issue, definitely pre-read.
Thanks :001_smile:
