but draw a line at things like soul retrieval, satanic themes, vampires, ghouls, graveyard spells calling people back from the dead, etc.
I think he needs to be more mature spiritually to integrate those kinds of ideas into a Biblical worldview.

Ds 11 (12 next week would like to read it).
Dh has said "No" to Harry Potter so far; I'm undecided about HP, but deferring to dh on this. I think it's more a matter of timing / maturity than a decision not to let him read HP from dh's POV.
It's clear that Magyk has some similar themes - what says the hive?

My dc are doing narrations / lit analysis of Beowulf this week.

If so, would you mind sharing? You can PM me if that's easier than posting here.
Thank you!

I was just looking at SWB's introduction in the teacher manual. She says (p 8) that the student may really struggle with a narration or two, and that's okay, but if it happens a few times over the course of the first 15 weeks that you should take time to practice more narrations from WWE.
I think if your dd did fine on the first three, I would forget about it and keep going in WWS. If she struggles a few more times, then I might want to review more.
I agree - we're on week 4 here. Ds 11 is a struggling writer; the challenge activity in week one took him about 2 hours, and he spent 2 days on it, but since then he's been able to finish the assignments within about an hour.

I used to list curricula in mine; now I've listed two of my favorite parenting websites. I'm hoping other posters will click on the links and visit these great online resources :001_smile:

Hi Susan!
We've just started using AAL, and I l already love it! It's scripted, easy to use, and builds on what ds 11 already covered using the FLL series. Thank you!
I'm wondering how to schedule this - I assume the idea is to cover 2-3 lessons per week, as with FLL, but it would be helpful to know for planning purposes.
Thanks again!

I want to recommend two fabulous websites to you - both are in my signature line (one is secular; one has CC) :001_smile:

and semi-sweet chocolate chips on hers. She says the hot popcorn melts the chocolate chips to just the right consistency.
I've never tried it, but she says it's amazing :D

Just talked to Molly at PHP - looks like it will be another couple of weeks before the PDFs are available.
-
I know the PDFs will be available for downloading initially, until the books are ready to ship, but I don't see information about how to order on the PHP site :bigear:

She has told me she is a lesbian, that she makes out with girls and has made a few s*xual comments.
Identifying herself as a lesbian and "making out" with girls at 7 strikes me as unusually precocious behavior. In combination with the other behaviors you describe, I think these claims warrant further investigation by a professional who can identify exactly what she means by "making out." It could be a reference to relatively innocent, childlike behavior, but then again, it may not be.

A few months ago, someone here posted about a website called Celebrate Calm. You'll find a link in my signature line. I began following the blog; ordered a number of their CD's on sale, began listening to them with my children, and signed myself up for Personal Mentoring and Boot Camp (all at discounted prices, by watching for sales, and asking for help to defray the costs when needed).
I'm currently half way through their Boot Camp program, and it is truly life changing. I've made changes in myself, and in my relationships with my kids, and they are responding beautifully. Our household is calmer, more peaceful, and a nicer place to live.

I am praying for her! :grouphug:

I'll check it out--thanks for posting.
Is the stuff on the site itself helpful or did you need to purchase the boot camp and/or other materials to get benefit?
The blog posts are very helpful; he will also respond to questions on the blog.
The CDs are incredibly helpful - they're expensive, but a worthwhile investment. The go on sale frequently, and they really will work with you on the pricing.
You can also listen to the radio broadcasts for free. Check their schedule to see if they will be speaking in your area; they speak at home schooling conferences, churches, and schools, often for free as well.

As new blog posts are added, this website is becoming a really great resource :001_smile:

it reminds me of a color by Restoration Hardware called Silver Sage, which is one of my favorites in a bright, sunny room . It can look dark, dull, and greenish in a room without a lot of natural light, however, so be sure to test a sample on the wall before you paint.
My other fav is one called Atmospheric Blue.
You can get both colors matched at paint stores with less expensive paint then Restoration Hardware.
Both would look great with White or Antique White.
Here's a link to the paint colors :001_smile:

They've added a number of new articles since I last posted. You can also follow them on Face Book. Very helpful.

but before we had that, I put a very large dictionary under their feet :D

I will take a peek my dh and one of my sons are about to put this introverted book reader in the looney bin:lol:
Dh and two sons here - I was getting very close to going over the edge myself :tongue_smilie:
What are your thoughts about the Magyk series?

Yes, that's the one. It really looks OK to me, but I wanted other opinions before giving it a :thumbup1:.
