Thanks Kristen. Would you mind letting us know which carriers your dh recommends? We are in IL.

Dh and I recently met with an insurance agent to discuss options that might lower our monthly premiums for a family of 4. She suggested Assurant, with a $10,000 deductable and an additional policy for accidents / critical care incidents that would cover up to $10,000, before the major medical policy kicks in.
We currenly have Aetna, but have never filed a claim because our deductible is so high; we can no longer afford the premiums.

I'm not aware of a way to schedule assignments either; we use Khan primarily for review. I generally let my dc work through the lessons in any order they choose :)

This isn't just a shop for lowest price transaction.
I agree, and thank you for your suggestions. This practice has an excellent reputation, and I like the orthos - a father and daughter team, very much. We're just experiencing a bit of sticker shock

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful comments and advice.
Heather, I may not have used the correct terminology when I referred to a "two-phase approach." As I understand it, they will begin with a system that will move the lower jaw forward; 4-6 months later the rest of his braces will be applied. This practice uses the "Sure Smile" system, which is supposed to shorten the length of time he spends in braces .
-
Ds 13 needs braces, not only to straighten his teeth, but to realign his jaw. The projected cost for the recommended "two phase treatment" is about $6300. He will be in braces for 18 -20 months. This is an all- inclusive figure; the orthodontist offers a 5% dscount if we pay in full when he commences treatment, and an additional 5% discount if we schedule his appointments during the daytime (off-peak hours). The 10% savings would lower the cost to about $5700.
We like this orthodontia practice, but are evaluating whether to shop for another estimate, becuase of the cost. We are in the Chicago suburbs.
Thanks for any advice you have to offer.

that was a link for hives...are you saying this will be the likely result? LOL. I'm all ears since we are seriously considering them now that my boys are middle school aged. The tests, not the hives. ;)
 Ds 13 has hives this week.
I changed the link in my original post. The cost for the CAT online is $25 and the results are scored immediately.

I know the isssue of standardized testing is somwhat controversial - I can see pros and cons either way.
That said, a friend sent me this link to the CATonline.
Are you aware of other standardized tests that are available online?
If I decide to test our dc, which tests should I consider?
Thanks!

You are describing my ds 10. I'm leaving in the morning for the GHC in Cinncinnati so I don't have time to respond at length. However, the websites in my signature line have been very helpful. They have a free email list with lots of helpful suggestions - you can follow some great discussions on thier Facebook page, and the CDs are wonderful. If $ is an issue, they will work with you on the pricing. :grouphug:

Isn't there a site where you can donate it? I've forgottone the name of it, but someone here will probably know.

A little girl in the town where my sister lives began inviting to people make snowflakes at her house - so many families were interested in participating that the event has been moved to a local church.

See if you can find a Luthier in your area.

We are a family of four, with 1400 sq. feet, which feels very adequate most of the time. It would be nice to have a basement when the boys' friends are here :tongue_smilie:
2200 woul be just about perfect; but I wouldn't want to clean a house with 3000 sq. feet.

Oh, wow! I'm a Queen Bee - when did that happen? And I have zero warning points . . . :gnorsi:

I remember those days too . . . :hat:

I haven't tried it, but many on the forums have. You can search for recipes here or online, or ask about it in a new post :001_smile:

It's a large prinitng job that we may not be able to print ourselves.
Thanks :)

we have been praying for Hannah!

I love it :auto:
I'd rather have a sun roof than air conditioning :tongue_smilie:

I would skip the top sheet and just have one thing on the bed - a light blanket or a comforter (depending on the weather). So you just have to straighten the blanket or comforter and put the pillow in place.
:iagree:

You have the second edition :001_smile:

the best tasting protien powder we've tried is Jay Robb's protien powder. If ds 4 will drink it, add vanilla yogurt and some fresh or frozen fruit and make it into a smoothie :001_smile:
Assurant Insurance - Any reviews?

Well, that's discouraging. Like so many others here, it looks like we can't afford decent health insurance.
Even with a $10,000 deductable
According to our insurance agent, the prices in the exchanges will probabaly be even higher than the rates we're able to qualify for if we can enroll in a decent plan now. Of course even if we do that, it may be only a temporary solution, because rates will likely go up and force us to drop the policy eventually. I'd prefer to stay out of the exchanges, for a variety of reasons, but it I'm also nervous about the idea of a program like Medishare or Samaritan Ministires. It just seems like there aren't any good solutions
