  1. Do you really need to buy all the books? I really don't want to shell out $60 for the Norton Anthonlogy for Western Lit because my library doesn't have it. My DS is doing Year 2 Unit 3 to start because he was in PS last year and that is where his World History class left off. Thanks! Cindy
  2. I just started the South Beach Diet on my doctor's recommend. he says that really it is the diet everyone should follow. Anyway, I am in no way hungry and I have a lot of energy! :) I am using the supercharged SB book and got lots of SB cookbooks from the library.
  3. I posted recently about my DH not wanting us to HS my younger kids. Well tonight we were all riding in the car and DH and I were discussing our reasoning behind our choices and one of my 4.5 year olds pipes up from behind me and shouts: " We Homeschool! We Homeschool! I LOVE Homeschool!" I couldn't stop laughing!
  4. I have this exact same problem. I can't fall asleep because I can't shut my brain off. When I do fall asleep I only sleep for maybe 3-4 hours and then am wide awake but exhausted. I clench my jaw so bad when I had my wisdom teeth taken out I ended up with an infection in my jaw because my jaw clenching wouldn't let it heal. The clenching, lack of sleep and muscle tightness I have has caused me to have 6 or more migraines a month. I also suffer from depression. I went to the doctor just this week about all of this. he is changing my depression meds and also but me on xanax temporarily for relaxation to sleep. He also said to continue taking Melatonin which I have been taking for years because of my sleep issues. I am up to 5 mg of Melatonin now. I take the time release capsules to help with sleeping longer. Last night is the first night I have slept from 11 pm until 6 am without waking up since I can remember. You should really visit your MD to discuss your symptoms. My MD also recommended a diet since I have about 40 pounds to lose as that could be a contributing factor (not that it is for you but for me) Hope you get relief soon!
  5. Me! Me! i am starting Monday. You can email me at cindy.seitter@gmail.com
  6. Salt and pepper the roast (use chuck, round or rump) to taste. Brown both sides in 1 tbsp olive oil. Put cut up veggies in bottom (I use Potatoes, carrots and onions). Mix 2 packets of Lipton's onion soup mix with 3/4 cup of water. Place roast on top of veggies and then pour soup mix over everything. Cook 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. DO NOT LIFT THE LID. Remove pot roast and veggies. Take the liquid that is left to make 2 cups of liquid (if you need to add water until you have 2 cups) put in pan add 2 Tbsp flour and cook on low until thick. Makes an awesome gravy.
  7. My step daughter(7) does this. I taught her to read at home and she is going into 2nd and it drives me crazy! She has some bad habits, writing 5's and 2's backwards, writing b's and d's backwards but when she went to school she could write them just fine! I never thought it was the school teaching or not teaching this. My SD went to K and loved it and that is what I think he is basing it off of. I helped in her class once a week and I saw some MAJOR issues that I did not like at all. There was a child that was obviously ADD and was put at the computer almost ALL day to play starfall although that child could read as well as I can. It broke my heart because my oldest is ADD so I know but the teacher just didn't have time to deal with him.
  8. My DH just keeps making these blanket statements that the kids ARE going to school and I WILL get a job. I worked full time up until 2 years ago in the technology field and made about 60K a year. I was laid off and now we feel it like everyone else. I missed my oldest childs growing years because I was a single parent and worked 50 hrs a week if not more. I don't want to miss the other kids childhood! I think money is the real factor for him. He makes plenty to take care of us but our house is really to expensive for us. I keep telling him Let's sell the house but he doesn't want to. He is a contridiction though. He keeps saying get a job. I got a job at LiveOps but whenever I work he complains nonstop. Then he says he doesn't want me to work! Talk about frustration! We are doing K at home this year (my twins turn 5 in Nov.) very lightly. Fiar, Singapore esstenials, and phonics. I'm not pushing and he says I am more than capable to teach the kids but then argues that the teachers at school have Degrees and they Should be teaching the kids. It just makes me mad and we start to argue. It isn't something we need to settle on right now but I would feel better if we did! Anyway, Thanks for listening and thanks for the advice.
  9. I feel really strongly about HS my children. I am HS'ing my DS who is 15 through the rest of HS with my DH's blessing (DS is mine from previous marriage although my DH adopted him). BUT I have younger children 2 of which could start PS next fall. My DH doesn't want them HS. He says they don't have to stay in PS but he thinks K and 1st are fun and they should have that experience. I disagree and we could have just as much fun at home and learn a ton more. he is also worried about the cost of HS'ing vs PS and says he pays for them to be in PS so they should go. I don't know what to do. I am a little heartsick thinking of them in PS next year. What would you say to your DH if he had these arguments?
  10. Thanks for the links ladies! I have been reading up on it and it doesn't seem to bad although I will be grouchy for a few days but hey whats different? LOL
  11. I went to my doctor today and he recommended that I go on the South Beach diet as my diet of choice. So pros/cons? How did you do on it? Did it work for you?? Any websites/books help you? Any tips? I LOVE sugar so any diet I go on is going to be a struggle!
  12. I still need to buy a few things and RR has them but I know they are a little slow shipping and right now could be REALLY slow shipping and we start school after labor day. Would you go ahead and place an order with RR and hope or order from another site? I need singapore ess. and some other things for my K'ers.
  13. This is a spin off of the post about making an effort to have your looks stay the same or as close to as when you married. When we married I worked outside of the home so I put on makeup every day and I was about 30 pounds lighter than I am now. I also dressed up much more. Now I only wear make-up on Sundays when we go to church or when we go on a date or special occasion. He says that he hates makeup or alot of it anyway. And he says makeup ruins my natural beauty. I DON"T wear alot at all. So do you put on makeup everyday? Why? I was just curious. :001_smile:
  14. for us to to have raw milk you pay a one time fee of $100 and then it is $35 a month for 1 gallon a week. That is way to expensive in my book and there is only 1 place around here you can get it from so no competion. I do buy my eggs from a friend for $2 a dozen for cage-free.
  15. I know I am a little late on this but I joined and sent you all an invite. I will be adding recipes when I get home.
  16. So what are your favorite sites or books for recipes? I have Sue Gregg cookbooks but I need some more ideas. :) Thanks for all the answers so far... I know this subject is beat to death on this board but I need some guidance before we go broke!
  17. I do bake. I make our bread from scratch (which includes grinding the grain). I make pancakes, french toast and cinnamon rolls from scratch and freeze the extras for quick meals in the morning. Lunches are usually sandwiches. And dinner consists of a meat, veggie and a starch. I need to lose 30 pounds and have been trying to go really healthy but it cost a fortune. I have been growing our own veggies without much luck this year (this is our first real year of a garden) and buy from farmer's market for the veggies. I can't imagine going to multiple stores to buy groceries!
  18. I have 5 children one of which is a 15 DS and a husband who eats a ton. How in the world do other moms of big families (5 or more children) afford groceries? Do you cook from scratch? Coupon? Limit seconds? My kids are eating me out of house and home! Links would be appreciated! :001_smile: Cindy
  19. I worked at a big bank and he was an electrician on site. I met him 4 years before I actually started dating him. I got married very young and had a son and then divorced all in about 2 years so I was VERY gun shy about dating "good" guys. I spotted him one day at the office and thought he was cute and asked one of his co-workers what his name was. Said co-worker then went to my DH and told him I said he was cute. evidently my DH had had a crush on me for the entire 4 years including but not limited to walking into glass doors because he was watching me (as he told me later). We started dating in Feb moved in together in June and married in Sept. It will be 6 years on Sept 17! :D
  20. I am making a morning board for my twin K'ers. What do you have on your morning board or what do you think is appropriate for K'ers for their board?
  21. sounds, numbers up to 20, and is beginning reading would you still purchase Oak Meadow K? From what I see it is introducing letters, sounds and numbers for most of the year. Although the rest of the stuff looks appropriate would you still buy it?
