  1. I was planning on starting RS A with my twins in the fall when they turn 5 but I was reading on the RS website to start them earlier if you could before you really started teaching counting. We are doing MEP reception right and my kids are going through it pretty easily. Would you wait until fall to start RS or go ahead and start now?
  2. I have a hard time following one set logic on parenting. I don't spank here unless they need to learn the lesson immediately and there is danger involved (running out into the street). I am not AP because I need my kids to be AWAY from ME when they don't behave or listen. But I love my kids and I want them to behave at home so that things can be taught and get done around here. I am an avid reader so here are a couple of the books I have read and use the logic found within: Parenting with Love and Logic- I don't like all of it because I believe that kids need set consequences for there actions. But I do use the options (do you want to wear this shirt or that shirt? You can sit down and hold your toy or you can stand and mommy will hold your toy.) http://www.amazon.com/Parenting-Love-Logic-Updated-Expanded/dp/1576839540/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300297073&sr=1-1 1-2-3 Magic (the logic I use the most) I use time-out as our main disicipline. Their room works great. I turned the doorknob around so I could lock it from the outside because I was tired of slammed doors. :) But this book taught me to STOP TALKING! The more you TALK the more you ENGAGE them and that is exactly what they want. http://www.amazon.com/1-2-3-Magic-Effective-Discipline-Parenting/dp/1889140430/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300297035&sr=1-1 I hope this helps and keep plugging away at school. I don't think what you are doing is to much at all. My youngest kids (twin 4.5) are doing about 2 hours a day with recess and snack thrown in. :) Just make it fun and she will come along.
  3. Not girlie here although I do have one! I do like to have my nails done occasionally (once every 6 months or so). Have my hair highlighted twice a year (cause I look really washed out if I don't). I wear makeup and fix my hair on Sunday for church and if Dh and I go on a date.
  4. Have you seen any coloring pages from the book? When I looked at HSS the example has some coloring pages from the book but I can't find them when I google it....
  5. besides Homeschool Share and the FIAR forum. I would love some coloring pages for the book or some other ideas that anyone has used to go along with the book.
  6. I did get the flip crayons. He can't hold those correctly either... He just fists them.
  7. LOL I just clicked on it and thought "Military camp!?"
  8. I know that it is just immaturity and that is why he holds his pencil in his fist but what should I be doing to fix that? I have HWT preschool and have been following their information about teaching the correct grip but has no affect. He has a twin sister that colors like a champ and is writing her letters beautifully and we can't do anything that needs writing because he can't do it..
  9. My DS is sounding out letters perfectly and he sits with books all the time doing one letter at a time. I know it might be a while before the blending kicks in but what can I do to help him along? he is 4.5
  10. I bought the Ping FnL and you are SO right. Not enough for the money. I am going to use it this week and spend a little prep time for Lentil next week. Thanks for all the replies!
  11. Shows it was sent and was tracked to NC and no more tracking information.... PO considers it lost. I did not put anything in my post about insurance though...
  12. the item was lost and you have a DC # that shows you mailed it? Just curious....
  13. The FIAR Fold & Learn from their digital website. We are doing A story about Ping thise week and Lentil next week. I was taking a look at the Fold and Learn and thought they looked good from what I could see. Have you bought them and used them? Are they appropriate for K'ers that aren't reading yet? The lapbooks on homeschool share are to advanced for them.....
  14. Can I have the link to this farm? I live in central va too! Chesterfield to be exact. :001_smile:
  15. They don't have many pictures but I am into cooking with whole foods. The Sue Gregg cookbooks are great even for a beginner. I also like the deceptively delicous books to sneak in veggies. http://www.suegregg.com/ http://www.doitdelicious.com/
  16. Honestly I would completely give her Benedryl or something like it if my Dh would let me. He an anti-medicine-of-any-kind guy seriously it is a fight to give the kids tylenol or motrin if they have a fever. I have let her sleep with us for about 6 months but that is just as bad. She is a VERY restless sleeper and is constantly moving. I have tried getting her to sleep with one of her siblings but she refuses.
  17. My 2.5 year old will NOT sleep all night. I don't know what to do. She is killing me. She hasn't slept all night since birth other than an occasional night here and there. She wakes up about 2 am EVERY night and starts screaming for me if she is in another room. I ended up letting her sleep with us for a while and that is the only way she sleeps all night but it is crowded in our bed with her there. So I have put a crib mattress on the floor next to our bed. She is back to waking up every night around 2. She either gets up and shuts our door and goes back to sleep (which is a good night) but most nights she wants me to rock her or lay in her bed with her and it is almost an hour most nights for her to get back to sleep. She eats plenty at night, she doesn't take a nap during the day and gets up about 8 am every morning. The other problem is that I am a VERY light sleeper so I wake up when she gets up to shut the door or anything. Any suggestions on getting her to sleep? Should I call her Doctor? I was up with her for 1.5 hours last night and ended up just putting her in our bed because I was miserable.
  18. Does anyone know how to teach Love of Learning? I know it really isn't PS that kills it in everyone as I had a PS education and LOVE to learn new things but I am also an AVID reader. My son (15) has no interest in learning anything new or different. He learns what he absolutely HAS to and nothing else. Doesn't read, only plays BB in every spare moment. Anyway I have 4 little ones (7 and under) and I want to instill in them a love of learning so they are always looking at new things etc....
  19. Yes I know odd time to start but I think the kids are ready (they are 4.5). We started with MEP math which they really liked. Played Hi-Ho Cherry-o to reinforce the count to 5 concept. Read A story about Ping for Fiar vol 1 and did geography by putting Ping on the wall map and talking about China. I tried to get phonics in as well but the kids weren't interested today. I will try to add that tomorrow. How does that sound? I didn't want to push to much.
  20. I don't mind working out of the house in the afternoon/evenings. Just need some options. :)
  21. Does anyone have any valid work at home options? I have a degree in computer science but we have 5 kids 4 of which would need daycare if I went back to work which would be ridiculous. I wouldn't mind telecommuting (i did that for 2 years before the big layoffs at BofA) I just don't want to go out and get a $5 an hour job in the evenings. That would suck! So any of you work from home? What do you do??
  22. I have been doing them seperate so far but wanted to know if it was better to have them together as they might learn from each other as well as me???
  23. Which one of those on the page link does he take?
  24. No one has twins or has run into this problem??
  25. No no fillings at all here. Thanks for the thought though. :grouphug:
