  4. Thanks Lori and Murryshire! That is exactly what I wanted to know. I do have a separate writing curriculum so I may skip most of the writing. It seems like a lot of material, so we will play it by ear and see how much we can cover in a week. Thanks!
  5. There is a suggested schedule in the TE on pg 16 (pretty sure its the same as the online). On day 28 it says to do Unit study One. It covers pages 143-157 in the student text with tons of small print reading about ancient classics (that I guess we don't read), and then two pages of questions, plus writing assignments. This would normally take us a week to cover! Just wondering if anyone has already done these Unit sutdies and how you worked them in to complete the program in one school year. We may not get to the end, or we will have to sacrifice some of the unit studies. Rockhopper..what is your plan? thanks!
  6. could you give me an estimate of how long the lessons take? Also, are we to complete the "Unit studies" in one day? I was looking at the suggested schedule and feel like there is no way we will complete it all in one school year! I am a "complete IT" type of girl! My ds is 8th grade this year, a strong reader and writer and loves LOTR. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the boost of confidence that I am on the right track!
  8. Do you ladies have any experience with Literary Lessons from LOTR? I have been looking at this and it has optional writing. It covers lit terms and have comp questions. Do you think it would match well with WWS2, spelling program, and AG without being too overwhelming to our day??
  9. Thanks for the ideas. I always feels like reading and discussing (because I am not very good at it!) is never enough. My ds is a voracious reader so getting him to read is no problem. I will ponder this some more and look at these ideas. Thank you!
  10. My ds, 8th this fall, will be finishing WWS1. We plan to start our year with the poetry section. I am wanting to add a spelling program, continue with AG. Now I need to add in Literature selections and just don't know what to do. He will be doing a year of World Geography with no formal history this year. He really enjoys WWS and had great success last year with it. So we plan to continue with that as our writing instruction. I need to add Literature but want a "program". I am not into designing any lesson plans of my own. All the literature programs out there have a writing component in them also and it seems like too much writing. Is it too much to do: WWS 1 and then into 2 Spelling program Grammar program then a Lit program?? I am looking at EIL Intro to Lit,OR Hewitts LL8, OR Figuratively Speaking. Would any of these programs be worthwhile if I don't do the writing portion of the curriculum? I am open to suggestions! or maybe I am just overthinking this... Thanks for the help, Karen
  11. Does anyone have a pdf list of the books used for readings that are lined up with the number card they go with? VP used to have a list I used so I knew which books were coming up and which went with which cards. I cannot find it anywhere for this level. Or maybe someone has made one up?? I know my ds will be told what to read at the end of his lessons, but I like to know ahead what we need to get a few at the library and also some I switch out. It is helpful to know how many weeks will be spent with each book. Thanks a ton!
  12. If you have used the Positive Action for Christ Bible curriculum, did you buy the TM? Does this require the parent to lecture once per week, or can the student book be done on an independent basis? My son like the look of the Proverbs study, but I am not sure I want to lecture or purchase the transparencies. Do I need the TM? Thanks!
  13. It does it for you. I don't think you can see it since you posted the ad, but anyone else that brings up your classified sees that bar.
  14. Cynthia, Can I ask how this is going? How old are your boys? Do you read aloud and are you doing any Bible readings along with it? I am looking for a more in depth "something" for my 14 yr old DS for next year. He seems bored with the Bible and any classes he is involved with at church. I like the looks of this book but would add in another study or something. I want him to be reading his Bible more. Thanks for your help!
  15. I will throw our experience out there. My DS took Apologia chem at a co-op taught by a community college prof. He wanted to take the SAT II chem test as an outside verification of our transcript. He complained while studying that the apologia text did not have the same information that the Barrons study guide did. He said the text and class did nothing to help him prepare for the test. He did not do well enough for us to even use the score. He had all A's in the class and found it extremely easy. I kind of have the opinion that Apologia did cover some of the test material but in writing to the student they use different or easier terminology. If you want to just check a block that chem is done, it is a fine text. If you plan to do AP ot sat subject tests, I would look for an additional text.
