Need help with wording something, please.
home4school replied to home4school's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks, everyone. My sil suggested instead of putting what I came up with, to let the boys each write something themselves. IDK about that, teen boys and all. They each said something like "Thank you, Love you".:glare: Yeah, that's original! -

Thank you Meghan, that sounds good. I do want to include something about them watching him "run the race". Although I am truly grateful for the support he gives them financially, above and beyond that I am truly blessed for the role model he is for my boys. Thanks again, Kim -
My boys race mx and their uncle sponsors them, absolutley, tremendously, 100%, beyond belief what he does for these boys. He is also a very godly, Christian man. I want to do something to "thank" him, but didn't want just the standard plaque to go in his office. He likes unique things. I've settled on a shadowbox with each of their jerseys from the last season. We all decided on a team verse, 1 Cor. 9:24. "...those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize. Run in such a way that you may win it." (loose translation here from my memory) Anyway, in the box I want to have this verse with something underneath to the gist of: You cannot imagine how thankful we are for your support and all that you do for us. But even more than that, we thank you for your example of how to run the race. Does that sound ok? Does it even sound right? I'm not even sure it's grammatically correct! Thanks! Kim

I ordered the Power Fit, too. I've never seen these before, but I hope they're good! Kim ;) Looking forward to getting shape in the new year!

Thanks for this! I just ordered one dvd, one set of 4, and one set of 10, used the free shipping code from boscopup, and get all this for $20!!! I picked dvds that were about 30 minute or so, hoping I would squeeze them into my day. I already have a lot that don't get used because they're too long. Thanks again! Hoping to start the New Year off right! I got to lose some weight and get back in shape. Kim :)

Latin or Spanish?
home4school replied to home4school's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We live in Ga. It could be useful for reading billboards in some areas, LOL! There are a good number of immigrants here, but we really don't have regular contact with anyone that speaks Spanish. I will be learning along with my boys, so we could try to use it outside of class. As far as career goals, right now he's planning on professional MX racing. So, there's no need for college. :glare: Yeah, got to get real sometime very soon. I don't know which to go with at this point. I hate changing my mind now. Spanish seems much more useful, but I don't recall much of anything from my HS Spanish. -
Thank you for all the input. I'm torn between WriteShop, Jensen's Format Writing, and TWSS which is recommended in Trisms. I just don't see myself watching the videos for TWSS. I wish I could hold WS and JFW in my hands to look thru them! I hate buying over the internet. Certainly, JFW is more cost effective. I really need to pour over all the online samples I can find. I don't want to bore them to death. But, we need to quickly and efficiently get them up to speed in their writing. They need work on strong sentences, outlining, pulling info from different resources for reports, etc. We've been using IEW's Writing Trails with our Amer Hist this year and while they can do a KWO outline fairly well and churn that back into a paper, they are clueless about doing something on their own. That's what scares me about IEW, I want them past the point of restating someone else's paper. I suppose we just haven't gone far enough into the program. Money is definitely an issue right now. I wonder if I could line the JFW up with the suggested writing prompts from Trisms' IEW? Maybe if I could find a used WS....I wonder if it would be easier to integrate with Trisms in place of TWSS than JFW. ugh...I just wanted to add I happened to think about IEW's Ancient History Based book. That would tie in with Trisms DAW time period. But, does it cover all the skills they need work on? Oh.my.word. Maybe I should just put them in school.

First Form Latin or Latin Alive!?

Sorry, I guess that would help! LOL I had just started another thread about Spanish vs Latin and had put that in there, so I guess I thought I put it here, too. He's going into 9th and we very successfully did GSWL this past year. He seemed to ALMOST enjoy it and retained a good bit. Thanks! Kim -

Input? BTW, this is for a book-phobic boy. Thanks! Kim -
I have a rising 9th grader and had planned on doing Spanish for HS bc I thought it could be useful. But, honestly, will it? We tried Speedy Spanish year before last and only got thru a few lessons. He hated it. This past year we used GSWL, he really retained it and seemed almost to enjoy it. So, would you go with Spanish with the hopes he may be able to converse briefly if needed or just continue with Latin? Thanks! Kim
