desertflower
Hello, I was wondering if the reviews of this book http://www.amazon.com/The-Usborne-Book-World-History/dp/0794524788was accurate? More specifically about the nudity. Does anyone have this book and can tell me? Is there too much? One every now and then? I'm using sotw and would like this book. Thanks! Rachel
I have an older edition and just flipped through it. Yes, there is some nudity but it does seem appropriate. The pictures are all drawings and they are not super detailed. The book is about 200 pages and there are about a dozen instances women without clothing in various places throughout the book. One is an Aborigine native that is a small drawing with several other pictures on the page. Her breasts are visible. There is a boy who is standing in a way so he is covering his private parts in the same picture. I didn't notice as many men without clothing, quite a few were wearing a loin cloth or something similar. On the page talking about the Greeks contribution to the Olympics there are unclothed men and you can see their buttocks. I hope that helps!
purduemeche
Plenty of nudity, but nothing inappropriate. Your children will follow your lead on how to handle illustrations like this.
desertflower
Thank you calandalsmom, Rach, and purduemeche. Your inputs are greatly appreciated and I have decided to get it. :)
AmandaVT
I just got this book last week - it's very appropriate and most of the illustrations are drawings, not pictures. I see mostly loin cloths and togas and such, no full on nudity.

Hwin
I just read all the one star reviews and wow, you'd think they had a different book. I never noticed the nudity. And I haven't caught my son sneaking off with our World History book so it must not be a terrible influence.

Rachel
The funny thing is that I've owned this book for almost two years and never noticed the nudity until you asked. Once I flipped through it, with my eye out for nudity I definitely noticed it though.
desertflower
Where did you guys get your book? It seems that I can only get it off ebay or used from Amazon. Is it out of print or is there a newer version? I don't want to buy the wrong one. Eta: I've already looked on the Usborne site and couldn't find it. Rainbow Resource has it http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/sku/004595/ Oh and you can even see some nudity!
dirty ethel rackham
Usborne Publishing let this book go out of print when they brought out their Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History. I think Sonlight is allowed to self-publish it since they use it specifically for their curriculum.
desertflower
Thank you Hwin and dirty ethel rackham. I hope I didn't sound like a snob. I do buy used generally on abebooks.com homeschool classifieds or at Goodwill. It's just I've been burnt before on buying used from Amazon. AmandaVT
I bought mine from Amazon - the one I got was shipped directly from amazon and it came in almost perfect condition.

One time my dh bought me a single rose in a vase and put in on our island. He asked me where something was and I pointed past the rose and didn't see it. lol
