Supplemental Word Problems?

Recommended Posts

DS really likes math.  Thus, he does several different math programs.  He's getting ready to start TT Pre-Alg, and we supplement with the Key to... series, Murderous Maths, and a great word problems workbook I found on Scholastic.  But, we're nearing the end of the word problems book.  This one is for grades 4-8, and it's not a series, so there isn't a "next one."  So, I'm looking for suggestions on other word problem books, etc. for when we finish this one.  I only need word problems, not curriculums that include word problems.  So, any suggestions?

I've used some some parts of the following:

Zaccaro's Real World Algebra and Problem Solving Genius

70 Must Know Word Problems by Singapore Math

Although AOPS Pre-A is a full math program unlike the above, it seems easier just to use one book for the word problems. You don't even have to read the text if you are using something else. Some of the problems come from various contests, the rest from the authors. This was our main program, but we did use the above books during short breaks.

Or, something free, Alcumus. It has a feature where you can focus just on a particular area, so you could do this to correspond with what you are teaching.

I like the suggestions you've gotten so far, HOE, Zaccaro, etc., but in addition, I am pretty enamored of this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Problems-Algebra-Proven-Techniques-Expert/dp/0071343075/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422057141&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+solve+word+problems+in+algebra

It has lots of different kinds of problems, and fully worked out solutions!!!!!

Just remember, Borac books, http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00DXHDM2A, reasonably priced and should give you problems that are geared towards contests. The only problem I see with these books is the light ink the publisher uses.

I've looked at these books before. There are so many to choose from and they all look good. Any recommendations on books you liked or didn't??
