Renthead Mommy
How long do lentils take to cook? The bag just says simmer till tender and soup gets thick. Well how long is that? I started this for dinner 15 minutes ago, now I'm wondering if there needs to be a different plan for dinner and this will end up for tomorrow. Leanna Tomlinson
I usually cook mine for at least 3 hours (many times more), but it could happen more quickly if they are at a fast boil. My sil will serve them after an hour, but I think they're too firm at that point.
Susan C.
If they were dry, then awhile.... It goes faster if you soak dry lentils beforehand. The few times I have cooked dry lentils, I put them in a bowl of water the night before, cover, add lemon juice to help w/digestion, and it still takes an hour or two to cook. Zebra
Whenever I cook them it takes 45 minutes to an hour.
Renthead Mommy
I think we are eating out tonight. The bad part about that is it once again give my husband fodder for the whole "why don't you take cooking classes in your free time". :glare: I hate it when he's right like that! PrincessMommy
Whenever I cook them it takes 45 minutes to an hour. Mine only take 45min too. But, you shouldn't cook them in tomato sauce...they will never really soften up. If I'm making them with a tomato type sauce I cook them up in water and whatever spices go with the recipe and add the tomato at the end. I've also heard some people have trouble if they add the salt ahead of time, but I've never noticed it myself.
Belacqua
At least three times whatever cooking length your recipe tells you. Lentil recipes LIE. Enjoy your dinner out. :)
