LauraGB
Our new pup's urine is really oily. Yesterday when we let him out, he peed a little on the concrete patio before he made it to the grass; it was dark, it didn't dry quickly and this morning that same spot is dark and oily (yes, I touched it!). I seem to remember Rosie's being pretty thick when she was a pup, but never thought much of it. We feed a grain-free food - could it just be that? Also, he drinks a lot of water and pees more than any other dog I've ever met in my life. But he doesn't seem to have pain or anything, and he's happy and energetic and normal in every way. Any experience with this? When I google, nothing much comes up. I think I'll try to "catch" some and bring it to to the vet to be analyzed, but in the mean time, I'm just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts about whether it's normal or if there might be a problem. SailorMom
That does not sound normal - I would take the pup in right away, and yes - somehow catching some would be a great idea. Hope everything is fine :grouphug:
Jilly
My puppy is 1 now, and I don't remember his urine ever being like that. He was also on a grain-free diet, so I don't think that would be the cause. I would take him in and have him checked if I was you.
Jann in TX
We recently lost a young dog with congenital kidney trouble--- if we would have known sooner he may still be with us. Have a serious talk with your vet-- if you are worried enough to post here then it is something to discuss!

LauraGB
I talked to vet this aft, and she didn't even want me to bring in a sample. She said it's fine, normal for lots of dogs, and not to worry about it since he's fine otherwise. So, FYI, if your dog's urine is leaving oily stains on your patio, don't worry, just scoot him out to the grass a little faster. :D
