If you buy already washed fresh veggies, do you wash them again?

I like the pre-washed veggies. Much easier. But I don't re-wash. I think about it. But I don't.

I do rewash the carrots, as sometimes they seem to need it - either they are dried out or a little slick, like bacteria is growing. I don't usually rewash prepared salad mix or cole slaw mix.

The only pre-washed veggies I buy, when I do buy them which is rarely because I'm just trying to save money, is lettuce. It always seems so limp in the bag so I wash it to refresh it. I rinse it in the salad spinner and add a cupful of ice cubes. Back to life it comes!

If it specifically says that they were prewashed, then I don't wash them. Things like baby carrots that come in a bag, I do not wash (I don't know if it says they're washed). Things that come in the bulk bins, like tomatoes, apples, etc..., I do wash.

Only the peeled baby carrots. No matter how distant the expiration date is, the carrots always are "gacky". I can't prove this is the cause, but I mistrust the store habit of spraying water over the produce.

When I buy pre-washed veggies it is because I want the convenience of not needing to wash them, so I never re-wash. They are generally more expensive, so if I am going to wash anyway, I buy the regular produce.

I buy bagged salad greens and they are pre-washed; I do not rinse them again before serving. Honestly that is what I am avoiding by buying them bagged. I don't mind tearing the salad but I hate rinsing it. I guess I should try a salad spinner!

 

I do wash all other produce, including baby carrots, prior to use.

Ha! You're asking the lady who doesn't always wash the unwashed fruits and veggies!!! (potatoes, yes, apples...well...usually:D:D)

If I don't wash everything (even pre-washed) then my psoriasis breaks out. Knowing that, I have to say there is SOMETHING on the pre-washed veggies. I put them in my salad spinner, add a little vinegar and let soak (usually while I add everything else. Then I rinse a bit and spin. It really doesn't take too long.

Yes, I re-wash the vegetables. Customers pick over vegetables to check for quality. I've also seen customers drop vegetables on the floor. Yuck!:tongue_smilie: I also wash the bagged pre-washed vegetables. The person who bagged the vegetables, may have inadvertently touched some of them before bagging them. I've seen too many people leave the restrooms without washing their hands.

I usually re-wash, but that's because my veggies are fresh from the farm and, while their washed, there is sometimes some soil still clinging to them or an inchworm or something.

 

For pre-washed packaged lettuce I don't though.

This is not the kind I consider "pre-washed." The factory-sealed bagged type is what is usually prewashed, and it's usually marked that way, I believe.

 

I also wash the bagged pre-washed vegetables. The person who bagged the vegetables, may have inadvertently touched some of them before bagging them. I've seen too many people leave the restrooms without washing their hands.

I don't think the bagged pre-washed stuff is handled by grocery store employees. More likely it's a factory assembly line.

 

ETA: I think the poll results will be skewed because everyone has a different definition of what "pre-washed" is.
