missplacedalaskan
Dh is currently at Eielson AFB, and the kids and I will be traveling up to Alaska in July. Would love to learn about the area through someone that lives there. We are really interested in opportunities for the teens. Also looking for an active church with a teen ministry. Thanks! runninmommy
I am a misplaced Alaskan. We just left Eielson in the fall. We are AD AF as well. My heart is still there but the rest of me is in Alabama. We went to a small family church in North Pole. It was awesome but not a huge teen crowd. Mostly younger kids up to 11-12. The pastor and wife are the sweetest, most kind, and generous people I have ever met. If you get a chance check them out. Northern Lights Free Will Baptist Church. The pastor and wife are Ron and Janice Wallace. If you have any specific questions about places or activities I would be happy to help. I could even send you some pic.'s if you'd like. missplacedalaskan
Thanks, Camille. We were stationed at Elmendorf AFB, before we moved to Keesler. Can't wait to be back in Alaska. Dh went up in Feb...I don't envy him! We will have to adjust to the cold weather this winter. Right now we are enjoying the MS Spring. I will suggest to Dh he might want to visit your church. Did you homeschool in Fairbanks? Do you know if there are opportunities for the kids to participate in school activities as independent home schoolers? Thanks! Angela in GA
We were stationed at Wainwright several years ago. I am looking forward to the day we can return, wether it be with the Army or when we retire. I absolutely loved it there. We attended Hamilton Acres Baptist Church in Fairbanks. They have a great teen ministry. They do a lot of activities, such as paint ball, summer camp, etc. My best friend lives in North Pole, AK. She attends North Pole Bible Baptist. I don't think they have much in the way of a teen department, but I could be wrong. I'm so jealous...we're hoping we'll be able to return to AK when dh finishes his time as a Drill Sgt. Twenty-two months to go. :p
missplacedalaskan
Thanks, Angela. I will suggest Dh look into this church as well. If the youth group is still active it sounds like a lot of activity and I think Ds would love it.

Oh, I'm no help, but I couldn't resist: April in Fairbanks music and lyrics Murray Grand from New Faces of 1956 Autumn in New York And April in Paris Are no longer chic. Winters in Mallorca And summers in Capri Are gone, so to speak. The people who have the wherewithal Have found a new place to have a ball. They've deserted the Champs-Elysees, The Piazza d'SpagnaIs no longer gay. They say their thanks for Fairbanks,Alaska. April in Fairbanks, There's nothing more appealing. You 'll find your blood congealing In April in Fairbanks. Bright Arctic moonlight illuminates the ice-floes When ev'rybody's breath shows In April. You've never known the charm of Spring Until you hear a walrus sighing. The air is perfumed with the smell of blubber frying. April in Fairbanks; You'll suddenly discover A Polar Bear's your lover In Fairbanks. Subzero weather Will turn your skin to leather Your jaws will lock together In April in Fairbanks. North Polar breezes will sing you a cadenza And bring you influenza In April I'll leave the Rivera to the fools who want a fancy palace. Give me an igloo , the Aurora Borealis. April in Fairbanks; I really can't believe it. I know I'll never leave it alive this April. Sorry. :D
