Home'scool
I am scheduled for jury duty tomorrow, but we are supposed to get a major snowstorm. I am assuming that jury duty will be canceled, but does that mean I am off the hook? Or will I have to report on Tuesday? Anyone been through this? Suzanne in ABQ
Check their website (or call) for cancellation. Don't assume anything. Canceling court is a big deal, as trials are scheduled months in advance. They don't just cancel at the drop of a hat. I'm not minimalizing your storm. Many times, they'll have a policy stating that they follow the local school snow-closure decision, but they may not. No, you're not off the hook. You're committed for the full term of your duty service. Have you already received your juror pool number, or is this your first day? If you haven't been yet, I'd call the phone number they gave you (or check the website) EVERY HOUR this evening, to see if it has been updated. They'll tell you what to do. Then, tomorrow (if court is cancelled due to weather), keep checking until they give you specific information for Tuesday. LMA
It depends on your state procedure. I am in MA and you are to call after 3 pm to see if you have to report. The recorded message will tell you which pools, if any, are canceled. If your jury duty is cancelled for the day you report, then you are done until you get another notice in the mail. From my experience, I get a jury duty notice every year because every single time it was canceled.
G5052
Or our local county puts out a notice like "X County Government including all courts are closed" or "X County Government is opening at 10am, all courts are starting on time" on various media outlets and on their website. In our county, I've been exempted thus far every time by breastfeeding (self-reported) or by providing a copy of my homeschool notice of intent. Home'scool
So, my jury duty was cancelled because of weather, and I am done with my jury obligation until the next time I get called up. They will put my name back in the pool and the earliest I would be called again is next year. So now we know:001_smile:
