Wendi
I'm thinking of reading "Sounder" with ds12. I am pretty sure I read this as a child, but I don't remember it. Does it have a sad ending? Wendi

K-FL
The dog dies at the end.Michelle T It seems the animal dying is required for all animal literature considered "must read" for kids. Think about The Yearling, Old Yeller, Where the Red Fern Grows. Only Black Beauty & My Friend Flicka come to mind that they don't. :glare:

Wendi Yes. In the last chapter both the boy's father and dog die.
Cinder
My ds read it for a class when he was 10. He thought it was rather depressing. Cinder
