Ting Tang
My daughter just finished reading a biography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and we're just about done with the entire television series. She wanted to be Laura for Halloween. Rather than buying a cheap (but expensively priced) costume, I decided to make one. Now I have cut the fabric for the main dress, but I still have the overdress and bonnet fabric to cut. I haven't even sewn it. It is exhausting. I really wish I enjoyed sewing more! Hoping it turns out ok.
Faith-manor
Hugs! I remember costume days.
Miss Tick
My mom said that for me, too. And my girls wore the costume when it fit them. You got this! If needed, you could skip the overdress and pin on a plain dish towel as an apron.
Ting Tang
Thank you both! Ahh, the dish towel idea, genius! I read it took a day to make a prairie dress back in that time. I have modern sewing machines and equipment, and I am still not done, lol. 2
Beth S
You Can Do This! The benefit of LIW dress = it's baggy & doesn't have to fit precisely. Your dd will love this! Our dgd now wears the one my Mom made for our dd. ETA = I did make a new bonnet, as we had lost the original. It doesn't have to fit precisely either. We didn't have an apron.
