Lisa in the UP of MI
DD wants to prepare for the AP English Language and Composition test this year, but does not want another online course. What materials would you recommend? Thanks!
lizlatorre
It's been a number of years, and I am not sure where my lessons plans went....but I know I used a book called, "They say, I say, Moves that Matter in Academic Writing and another called Everything's An Argument. If you google AP Language Comp Syllabus you should find both some samples from AP as well as random ones from high schools around the country to give you ideas. The test involves reading articles and forming good arguments based on a writing prompt. My DD really liked both those books, and we used a variety of articles. The Atlantic is a good publication to get articles from.
BakersDozen
I just used (and will use again with future students/classes) The Language of Composition (2nd edition). It is hands down one of the most fantastic texts I've ever used. My dd went through most of that then used practice tests to prepare for the exam.
Momto6inIN
My DS used a book by IEW about preparing for the AP Language exam and a test prep book. He worked on getting speedier with his essays for an hour every day and read from good books for an hour every day. About 2 months before the exam he started the test prep book. He was well prepared.
