Chris in VA
Dd received a tree printed from a 3D printer from her boyfriend. He said the tree withstands temps up to 212F. Right now they are covering it in sculpey polymer clay and want to bake it. I am thinking the temp for the clay to bond is higher than the printed tree will endure. Any tips? It would be a shame for the clay not to completely bond--the little tree took 16 hours to print and it was completely designed by her bf. It's such a sweet little gift, I want it to work for them. Monica_in_Switzerland
I don't think that will work... Fimo clay bakes at just above boiling temp, I'm guessing sculpey does as well. I'm not getting a clear picture of what they are wanting to do, so it's hard to help form there. Can they extract the tree and then re-insert it once the clay is baked? Bambam
Since you are supposed to bake Sculpey at 275 F, I don't think this will work. Are they just trying to get a snow effect? If so, I think paint would work. Or are they making decorations for the tree? They could make the decorations separately, bake them, and then glue them to the tree.
