PentecostalMom
My 2nd grade dd is currently working in SWO A. We are a bit behind after a rough school year with losing my dad, losing a baby, Hurricane Irma, and two moves. I read so many positive things about both programs. Which would you choose and why? My older dc used more textbooks (Abeka and BJU among other things) so my foray into various curricula is rather new. MotherGoose
Rod and staff has more spelling rules instruction than SWO in my opinion.
Ellie
SWO is a close second to Spelling by Sound and Structure. :-) However, I don't think a formal spelling is important for children who are just 7ish. I recommend SSS when the children are nine years old. :-)
misty.warden
We loved Spelling by Sound and Structure because it reinforced the rules DS was learning in the R&S reading/phonics program rather than just being lists with little real explanation. AdventuresinHomeschooling
Unless she is a natural speller, we found that SW became just like any other list based spelling program for my son. He was not a natural speller, and he had little retention with SW. We switched to AAS for him. My oldest is a natural speller, and pretty much any program would have been fine as long as it was challenging enough with the word lists.
