MeganW
I have one kid who qualifies for Duke TIP. Has anybody done this? Worth it? My kid is starting 6th grade. Is there enough in the 4th-6th program to make it worth it, or wait until 7th? Thanks!
Runningmom80
You may want to xpost this on the accelerated learner forum. :)
daijobu
We didn't make much use of Duke TIP. The greatest benefit to us was demystifying the SAT years before they need to take it for college admissions. If they get a reasonably good score in 7th grade, there's less stress over the real deal.
Lilaclady
I will wait till 7th unless your child wants to do their camps and you can afford them. When you register in 7th, it is valid all through till 12th grade.
PeachyDoodle
We're registering DD for this year (7th), mostly so she can take the SAT and get some experience with a "big" test without the pressure. I qualified for TIP in 7th grade and also took the SAT that year. I remember getting the catalogs with the camps and classes in the mail and drooling over them, but they were way expensive, and I knew we couldn't afford it. If DD finds something super interesting we might try to make it work, but they are not cheap. We did look into it last year but just couldn't see that it was worth the cost. If you plan to do some of the programs, maybe. Otherwise I'd wait until 7th, when you only have to enroll once for the rest of your school career.
