Bula Mama
Has anyone used the Math Without Borders DVD's and Forester's Algebra I? I'm wondering how teacher intensive this is? I read that every other problem has the solution in the back of Forester's but is this the only help with answers the teacher has???? Any feedback will be appreciated!!!! naturalmom
We started it before I got the Math without Border's CD's, and it was pretty teacher intensive then. But since we have the CD's, I just watch the lecture with my son, and then sometimes I have to help him if he gets stuck on the homework, but usually not. I also got a solutions manual so that if he has trouble or gets a lot wrong on the odds, he can do the evens. Having the CD's has made math much nicer at our house - and I understand it better, too! LisaNY
We just completed chapter 3 of Foerster's/Math Without Borders CD. I am very happy with this program. MWB has made Foerster's accessible to an otherwise non-mathy mom. We sit down together and watch the CD on the PC, and then my dd does the odd problems. The teacher, David Chandler explains the concepts very well in a slow, methodical manner. I got my SM through By Way of the Family. I think they might still have their $10 discount on purchases over $50.
at the beach
I think you can get a solutions manual through the publisher but you must set up a homeschooler's account.

Perry
We're very happy with the MWB DVDs. One of my girls watches the DVD then does the problems on her own. She occasionally needs some guidance from me, but usually gets the material fine just by watching. My other dd watches, then I have to go over it with her again, and do a few problems with her. She does tend to be a little spacey and I think her mind wanders while she watches the DVD. I think the teaching on the DVD is very clear. The book has answers (not worked out) to the odd problems, except for the chapter review/test. We often do the even numbered problems if the girls need more practice, and we do most of the story problems. I bought the solutions manual from Amazon Marketplace for $60.00. It's kind of hard to find, but well worth the price.
wtmviolet
I was googling around, following rabbit trails (bee trails?), and naturally ended up back here. I found several posts about the Home Study Companion materials from Math Without Borders with Foerster's algebra book (and other books), but many of them seemed to be from ladies who had only used the Companion with Foerster's for a short while. The posts were mostly from the previous school year and from last fall, so I was wondering if any of those ladies (or anyone else) had additional comments. My basic trail, for anyone interested: http://mathematicallycorrect.com/a1compar.htm http://www.homeschoolmath.net/reviews/foerster_algebra_1_home_study_companion.php http://www.mathwithoutborders.com/ http://wtmboards.com/HSboardmay25/messages/1416.html http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11222 http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64953 http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?p=693405 :driving: (smilies by request of ds#4) :auto:
