Insertcreativenamehere
My 6th grader has asked for a graphic design class. He's already taught himself a lot by watching YouTube videos and playing around with Photoshop but he's looking for something more formal. Is anyone aware of something that might fit the bill? J&JMom
Not a full course, but a suggested book. My boys enjoyed it last year. Go: A Kidd's Guide to Graphic Design by Chp Kidd. https://www.amazon.com/Go-Chip-Kidd/dp/076117219X Edited March 16, 2017 by J&JMom

Farrar
That Chip Kidd book mentioned above is great. It has some assignments in the back as well. We did it and it was really enjoyable. There's also a Coursera MOOC about design in general that he might enjoy doing.
Alte Veste Academy
I second lynda.com. We get free access through our library, so be sure to check and see if that is an option. They have many graphic design courses and even structure them into what they call "learning paths" where they lay out individual courses successively to provide well-rounded instruction on any given subject. Here is one, "Become a Graphic Designer." They also have many classes particular to platforms of interest. DD12 is very interested in graphic design, web design, etc. and has been using Adobe's Creative Cloud. We get an education discount, and she has access to all of the programs. I can't recommend this enough. So she gets access to professional programs through Adobe CC and access to professional level instruction for these programs through lynda. She uses lots of other stuff online, but this is the best of the lot. Also, does your son have a graphics pen tablet? That set her loose. DD started with a Wacom Intuos, but we upgraded her at Christmas and she has been drawing/animating/designing like crazy. She is starting work on her own web site, another thing Adobe CC and lynda have helped with.
