Newly pierced ears...what type of earrings?

Dd (age 9) got her ears pierced a little over 6 weeks ago. So far, they are doing good and she is looking forward to taking the piercing earrings out and changing them to a new pair. I want to be careful to only purchase earrings that won't irritate her ears, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Nickel-free is best, right? What else? How do I know what type of earrings are nickel-free (does it say on the package)?

Thanks!

When DD had her ears pierced we had it done at her pediatrician's office.  They used medical plastic earrings and recommend the use of medical plastic for the first year (it takes that long to fully heal.)  Their reason was that use of medical plastic initially GREATLY reduces the risk of developing allergies in the long-term.

Interesting!  I haven't heard this before!
