midwestbelle
If an American family moves to Germany for the Dad's job (non-military) would they be allowed to homeschool?
Parrothead
No they wouldn't if they live in Germany. There have been missionaries and others that have had to leave Germany because they homeschool.
cathmom
They can ask for permission. I know a family who went to Germany for a Fulbright and were given permission to continue homeschooling while there. They were there for an academic year. readwithem
We spent a weekend searching and researching, emailing homeschool groups over there when we were offered a transfer a few years ago. We decided to turn it down - if we were in the early days of formal education, we would have used the local schools for language immersion, alas we were on the cusp of high school. :crying:
Obi-Mom Kenobi
If you can live in NDL and dh can commute into Germany for work, you could easily continue homeschooling (so long as you do not plan to use the local school sytem at all). The parents can opt out of schooling for religious or philisophical reasons, BUT once a child enters the school system you may not pull the child later to homeschool. At least that was the regulation 4 years ago when Padawan Learner and I were there. You might be allowed to contine with enrollment in an American correspondence school while living in Germany. Either way, check with the German Consult in your area or with the German Ambassador in Washington, D.C. to be absolutely sure.
