  1. Thought a few of you and any advanced middle and high school students might like this new Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WhatDoEngineersDo There's a variety of links daily that get you thinking and learning something new. Posted this earlier, but edit to mention what it was actually about on the title line didn't show up. WAS: Shut the front door, two posts in one day!
  2. I tear the edges of my toenails off while I read. I finish up for the day and - huh - there's a little pile there. I am a pedicurist's worst nightmare.

  4. Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out right away. Love, love, love sharing resources and internet finds.
  5. There is a link on the side to subscribe to updates via email, if you don't use a feed reader. I should have mentioned that. I'm all about making things easier.

  7. I hope that someone else can put the links, etc to good use as well. Happy homeschooling!
  8. who are using or considering either the Holt Biology: Visualizing Life or Prentice Hall: Physical Science Concepts in Action (with or without the Earth and Space Science component) textbooks. I love science and find it fascinating, but it's not my background ("Boys and girls, can you spell English and Counseling Degrees?") so I'm scouring the Internet daily for relevent materials to clarify these topics for our son, The Padawan Learner. It occurred to me that, since I'm keeping a log of our daily lessons online at The Jedi Academy so PL can start work independently as needed and for future transcript needs, there might be people on these forums who would be interested in following along as well - and saving themselves the effort (and occassional hair-pulling) of duplication. Generally, I try to find materials and videos online, but I also include a few Netflix movies. Those resources fall more frequently in the History category, but there are a few science-related ones that we've put in our queue. They could, perhaps, be found through your local library, or simply ignored, depending on the library system's depth and breadth. So... if you're interested, you're welcome to follow along - either this year or in the future. To science! (Note: links repaired)

  10. Padawan Learner, 15, started his Freshman year this year and is taking two classes that were of interest to him at the local Public School. Homeschooling, in all its forms, should promote the best education for a student - not just its location. If you believe you will be better educated in a few subjects at the local PS, then you owe it to yourself to seriously consider them. Fear of the unknown is no reason to reject what may be a superior educational opportunity. Best wishes to you!
  11. as portrayed by my husband (Dad Windu) several Halloween's ago - in a costume I made. Padawan Learner's costume was as Anakin Skywalker.
  12. Dad Windu was hoping there was more there. We'll look into what's around at Fort Dodge and see if it's worth the stop. I think the Pony Express route sounds cool. I'll keep that little noose fact in the back of my mind... eeks!
