HollyDay
Dd is using Saxon Physics. She picked it out after looking at multiple choices and the program is going very well. However I'm concerned that it just isn't as fun as I'd like the subject to be. She is enjoying the math and her grades are excellent. But, I'd like to have a "bigger picture" book that would capture her imagination. Something that would bring about the awe of physics. I'm not replacing Saxon, I just want something else Suggestions? MarkT
Saxon Physics has the reputation of being mostly a math course. Maybe get an old copy of Hewitt's Conceptual Physics for a completely opposite approach as a supplement.
regentrude
Get any physics text that presents topics in their natural sequence instead of jumping around between seemingly unrelated topics. Which would mean pretty much any text. How anybody can develop a big picture of physics from Saxon is beyond me. Hewitt's Conceptual physics is fine. But the "capturing the imagination" is not really going to happen until Modern Physics; mechanics simply is not that terribly exciting. 8filltheheart
My kids have loved Kinetics Books physics. They have demonstrate they know how to use the concepts being taught by applying formulas to make video games operate. Solutions Manuals are available through Kolbe. (Kolbe's Principles of Physics includes the answer key to Conceptual Physics.)
