sbgrace
We're having success with CLE. I think I'd like to use CLE Algebra I with at least one of the kids, maybe both. I've been supplementing CLE with Singapore word problems. We've also added Jousting Armadillos to the 700 level CLE. We're beginning the 800 level, and I think I may try to add their Algebra books along with that level. Is there a good way to supplement CLE Algebra I with quality word problems? I think I'd hope whatever I supplement with would add a bit of challenge too. I especially need to add challenge for my more math minded child if I stick with CLE for him. wapiti
I don't know how CLE is organized, but you could pick up an old copy of Dolciani alg 1 or Foerster for word problems. Since they are organized by topic, it should be easy to pick out what you need. There's always Alcumus for problem solving in general (where I'd put word problems as a subset). OnMyOwn
I thought the CLE algebra word problems were actually pretty good, but Foerster's would be a great way to supplement them.
3andme
I agree with OnMyOwn. CLE's Algebra word problems are challenging and comparable to other programs. In addition to Foerster's, Lial's Algebra is also a good, inexpensive source of word problems.
sbgrace
I'm glad to know the word problems are strong. I have felt that word problems were the biggest weakness in the levels of CLE we've done, but I haven't yet purchased the Algebra. I feel encouraged. I'd like to use just one math/stop supplementing! Momling
I liked Zaccaro's "Become a Problem Solving Genius" book for pre-algebra and algebra 1. I learned some good techniques!
